One of the most time consuming things to do is searching for sources for tractor related stuff such as implements, hydraulics, customizations, add-ons, options, upgrades, lights, etc, etc.

Recently, I found one member had posted list of steel supply source for a project. It dawned on me that he must have spent quite some time searching for and collecting these sources. I found those sources interesting and saved them in my favorites folder just in case I might need some raw steel someday.

So, I'm thinking that it would be nice if we can collect a list of the sources that our members have already taken their precious time to search for and deemed worthy. So my question is: What are your favorite sources for tractor related parts? This can be for anything, of course, that you feel might come in handy, for tractor owning folks. Thanks in advance.

When doing repairs to my equipment, I tend to favor O.E.M. parts when available. So I frequent my local Massey Ferguson/John Deere/Ford-New Holland dealers for that "stuff".

Southern States Co-Op, and a good ol' fashioned "feed mill/farm supply" place not far from here for fencing and general farm supplies.

Shoup, Valu-Bilt, or Agri-Supply for "generic" parts/aftermarket parts.

Ebay for whatever presents itself as a "deal".

I've bagged a good many items at auctions. Just know the worth of what you're bidding on or you'll pay double!

Mad has some good ones. I'd add Northern Tool to the list as it has a great catalog and is a great reference. I order stuff from them all the time and I'm never disapointed.

Generators, Pressure Washers, Sprayers, Lawn Mowers, Tractors, and more from NorthernTool.com

For tractor parts, I usualy go to Napa. There online website sucks, but the guys at the counter will go to any length to find a part for you.

Tractor Supply is good sometimes too. I buy my welding rod from them. I don't actually know if I'm getting the best deal, but it's better than Home Depot, Lowes or any of the welding supply shops. They also have one of the best selections of bolts around. Tractor supply has some good prices, but inventory is hit or miss. The website is better than the store, but may list items not found at the store. Each store seams to run it's own inventory and you just never know what it will have compared to the website or the catalog. If your near, go in and get there catalog. It's called the blue book and it's allot of fun just to browse through.

Tractor Supply Company

For building a barn, or any other building, I alwasy start with Muellers. They might not be in your area, but there website is worth looking at. Good prices to get you started and quality stuff.

Mueller, Inc. - Steel Buildings and Metal Roofing

As for Ebay, it's fun to look for stuff, but prices have realy gotten out of control and shipping can be really absurd. I was gonna buy a manual on there for $10, but the guy wanted $20 for shipping!!! I look there for what's available, then do a google search for the item. Most of the time I can find it new for less than what it's selling for on ebay.

Don't get me wrong, there are still some great deals on Ebay, but you have to know what it costs new, or what it's really worth.

Nobody's mentioned yet Grainger and McMaster-Carr.
I love Grainger's Catalog but I hate their website.
McMaster-Carr has a great website. I use it as a basis for looking up
pulleys and shafts and bearings and other items to get a price estimate.

Another site I found out about yesterday was MSC Industrial Supply Co.
They are like Grainger and McMaster-Carr. It was recommended to me.
They have a catalog that rivals Grainger's printed catalog.
But I haven't had a chance yet to poke around too much on their website.

I get a lot of stuff locally. Farmer's Co-op, Mill and Mine Supply, etc.
They don't have websites tho.

Good idea. We can all use all the sources we can get.

I get my steel from the local welding shop. I get add-ons from the local fleet supply. I get used impliments from the many farm auctions I attend. I get my parts from the dealer I got the equipment from. All the old tractor parts I get from a catalog I got from our Allis dealer or swap meets. I do little E-bay and internet buying. I like to see what I am buying before I pay for it. Had to send junk back, at a cost, too many times.

When I head out to my rural property I pass by Tractor Supply. I mean I stop in Tractor Supply. I like how they sell their nuts and bolts in different grades etc by weight and in bulk. They also have about everything I need. The 3 pt equipment works well, welding supplies, fertilizers, Fencing and the list goes on. There may be better quality merchandise around but I don't need mine for commercial work and the price is right.....

PoohBear,
I want to shop at Grainger but they will not sell to me in my area because I am not a business. This varies from area to area. Grainger's prices are a little high but they do have a great inventory.

When you walk into a Grainger store, just tell them you work for Farwell Industries, and give them a credit card to pay, they'll sell to you.

I also like Mcmaster Carr, they have stuff you can't get at Grainger, and their delivery is first rate. If I call (they're in Chicago - I'm in KC) by 4 pm, I'll have it the next day via UPS ground.

I've bought quite a bit of stuff from Northern with no problems or regrets too......Harbor Freight is a good source as well, just watch what you buy, some of their stuff is of dubious quality, but most is just fine..........
