Found the drain plug OK. Book says you have to remove a plate with 3 bolts to get to hydraulic filter. I find no plate with 3 bolts???? Where should it be from the drain plug? Anything else I should know about removing/cleaning the filter?
Adron,
Not sure about the 2500, but think it's similar to many. Your larger hyd line from the pump to the trans-hydraulic housing should unbolt from the case and reveal a cylindrical mesh screen inside. They can be cleaned with solvent or carb spray and replace. Surprising how many hydraulic related problems vanish after the procedure is performed. Just follow the big line to the bottom rear of your tractor and you should see the (triangler shaped) flange bolted to the case. When you replace and elect to use RTV silicone it should be on both surfaces (thin dry coat) and not too excessive as it will be the first thing to come off and trap you screen.
Someone may correct me (that's a good thing) and add more detail. Hope this is helpful. Welcome to

Nope, No Joy! Traced the return line back to the case housing. it was a completely round housing with 3 bolts. Just a hydraulic connection (took it apart and checked), and sure enough the fluid runs out real slow, kinda confirming my belief that the Hyd system problems are caused by blocked filter. Looked at a friends 1500, found the plate exactly where it was supposed to be. But it isn't there on my 2500. ??????????
OK! found it. Round cap, 2 bolts, pry off cap, 11/2" diameter screen filter about 6" long. Looks like a mud dauber built a nest in it. Cleaned, Replaced, new fluid, hydraulics are GREAT.
Here's my YM2610 that is really a YM2500. A YM2610 has the Power-Shift and the YM2500 does not. Both on the same chassis and both have the 3T80 engine. Also the John Deere 850 is the twin to YM2500.
Looking between the PTO and the hitch with ball, you can see the 3-bolt circular plate to access the filter screen. Click on the image to enlarge.
