I was looking over my B7100D this weekend getting it ready to till the garden.

I was looking and could not find an alternator to keep the battery charged?? I would assume it would be on the fan belt somewhere but the only 3 pulls on the fan belt was for the fan/water pump, tensioner, and crank? I have had it for over 2yrs now, and have not charged the battery once, so I am assuming with the engine running that it was being charged somehow?? I have owners manual, and looking at all the diagrams, I still could not find the alternator?? Am I missing something. It is a B7100D, 1977 (the year I am guess being it has 4 lugs on the front wheels...

It's a dynamo mounted just behind the fan on the same pulley (item #10 on the .pdf file)

What may seem to be a water pump is the Dynamo. The tractor has no water pump and works on a Thermosyphon principle for cooling water circulation.:D

And the dynamo produces just about barely enough current to run the tractor with the stock lights on. I doubt it actually charges the battery when the lights are on, either :p. It is a real bummer - I'd love to add lights to mine but doubt it would handle the load.

It's output is 14 amps. More than enough to charge the battery with all the stock lights on. Now if you want some 55W driving lites, you can put 2 on and still be safe. Anything more and you should be installing the alternator upgrade.

Thanks for that info Mad. I've been thinking of adding several lights.:D :D

Can you tell more about the thermosyphon principle, I have never heard this before??

Thanks for the pictures, I looked this morning and the dyno has a wire coming out of it..

Thermosyphon is the natural convection of heated water in the system. As water is heated, it becomes less dense and moves upward in the system and is replaced by cooler water which then becomes heated, etc. Keep the raiator clean!
