I am working through an over temp issue on my oil cooled tractor engine (Deutz f1011 4cyl). I have a long list of tests but where is the best place to measure an engine temp correctly? It is not the oil radiator. Oil filter seems outrageously hot. Oil pan?

The best place is to measure engine temperature is either in the oil/water cooling jacket in the head or on the hot side of the thermostat. Have you looked at the t-stat?
