I have a Briggs and Stratton 17 hp opposed twin engine that will only run on choke. It was flooding, but I got that fixed.

I was looking on the net and found that the high speed jet may be clogged. Only problem is I'm not sure where to find it on the carb.

If someone could help me out with a photo of one or something that would be appreciated.

Thanks

Chad

I cannot say that I'm familiar with the exact engine you are referring to, and it would help others help you if you could give roughly what year your engine is. But oftentimes the high speed jet is incorporated into a nut that holds that float bowl on the carb. Remove the nut, look for small orifice, and clean it out with bristle from a wire brush and a shot of carb and choke cleaner.
Hope this helps...

You should have a large nut about 3/4 inch wrench size on the side of carb. it is behing it at the bottom of the bowl. If the the top of the carb is removed you can see the jet screwed into the side of the bowl cavity. The pilot jet is at the top of the carb after you remove the top of carb.

Thanks. I finally found it. I'll have to go about cleaning it tomorrow as it's pouring down raining here right now.

If I remember the engine is at least 13 years old. I got it mounted on my backhoe.

I couldn't get the high speed jet to come out. It must be seized in there. I'll probably just get a new carb for it and be done with it.

In the mean time I guess I'll swap engines out so I can at least get this thing going.

I have another good running Briggs that is on another riding mower which I'll use. It smokes a little but at least it runs. The mower needs some work on the deck anyway.

Then once I get the new carb. I'll switch back to the twin engine.

Later I was thinking of just getting a diesel engine for the backhoe and doing away with these carbs.
