Kubota L3600
I looked all over the tractor and I'm having trouble finding the fill tube or plug for the hydrualic / transmission. How do I determine if the oil level is low if it only has a plug. Baught it used and don't have a manual (yet).

On the rear of your tractor, just above and to the left of the PTO guard you will see the sight glass… It should be ½ full… KennyV.

This shows you the location of the 4 drain plugs, the filler point and the sight glass. KennyV.

Ahhhhh, thank you very much for the info and diagram. I'm almost in dis-belief. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I'm very familiar with the red-capped oil fill behind the seat. But this is really bad news. The plot thickens. My tractor has a slight oil leak in the back, I think it might even be coming from the view-glass. This requires a bit of oil to be added once in a while. Here is where things get ugly. Thinking that the rear-end takes 80-90wt oil and since the guy I baught the tractor from gave me 2 gallons, I added the 80-90wt where I should have added the Super UDT. Now I have contaminated my hydraulic system and I have drain and replace with the expensive oil. I hope I didn't do any damage to the pump or transmission since I ran it all summer long that way. Yikes

Since the system holds over ten gallons, you probably didn’t hurt anything… there are far worse things to contaminate with… What transmission do you have? Is it a glide shift? Where are you located? Do you have a TSC near you? Is there a loader on your tractor?
If I were you I’d get ten gallons of TSC’s premium Trans/Hydro fluid, it's around $4 a gallon. Drain all four points, replace filter and not worry about it… KennyV.

Forgot to mention… The sight glass leak… There is an O-ring on it. Replace it and you will not have the leak /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif… KennyV.

I have a glide shift, L3600 DT and I'm located near Leesburg VA. There is a TSC right in Leesburg. Funny you should mention that since I'm on their web site right now looking for a suitable oil. I have a new filter at home and will drain the system this week. I already did the fuel filter, oil filter and air filter over the weekend, now I just want to finish up by doing the hyd system.

I have a FEL so I was thinking about raising the bucket all the way up, opening up all the drains and then lowering it to get some of the oil out of the cylinders. Can't think of how to get the oil out of the curling cyldrs. I also have to get the oil out of my log splitter. Lots of fun. While I'm at TSC, I'm going to pick up some degreaser so I can determine exactly where the oil leak is coming from. If it is the glass-sight, I will promplty replace the o-ring.
Thank you again.

The TSC ‘Traveller brand Premium Universal Tractor Trans/Hydraulic Fluid’ is very good. I’ve used it in my L4200 Glide Shift for the last 2 change intervals. I think you are going to find the shifting on the fly is going to be much smoother and quicker as the clutch packs should be much happier with the lower viscosity fluid. I would not be over concerned with the loader cylinders; you are only dealing with a couple quarts of fluid in there. On your log splitter ram and any other loose cylinders just hook up one hose and allow the other, with the QD removed, to dump into your used oil container. Again as compared to the whole system (over 10 gallons), I don’t think it will be a very significant contamination problem. If it really bothers you, change the fluid again at 200 hours instead of 400.
Kubota GST systems seem to be very forgiving and pretty indestructible /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif… I have NOT used my foot clutch in years /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif. KennyV.

I picked up 10 gallons of TSC Hyd oil last night. Just like everything in this area, it was higher priced than normal. I paid $35.88 for a 5 gallon bucket, but that is still not too bad compared to the SUDT.

I think we are getting some more warm weather this weekend so I'll try to get it changed out. The splitter ram is retracted all the way, so there is almost no oil in that too. I'm not going to worry about it.

I want the tractor in good working order before we get any significant snow. I only had to plow 2 times this year so far, but who knows how many more storms we'll get. I have to do about 1 mile of gravel road + drive ways and it will be a good feeling knowing fresh oil is flowing through it's viens. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have to ask....What do you mean by not using your foot clutch? I use it all the time. My old 8N habits are hard to break.

You are right about old habits… I had too many years with gear/Dry clutch transmissions /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. With more use of your GST you will start using the hydraulic clutch packs via your shuttle shift or the glide shift lever. Much less wear of things as the hydraulic clutch pack is a wet clutch /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif, the main clutch is dry. KennyV.
