Am I the only one who gets frustrated when some one puts a post out there looking for help with a break down or other mechanical issue, gets replies, and then is never heard from again?

To me a big part of my knowledge base comes from hearing about someone's issue and then finding out what the problem and solution was. When the OP never lets everyone know what fixed the issue none of us gets to gain that knowledge.

I agree. You would think they would have the courtesy to tell us if a fix worked or didn't. Also posts about a bad neighbor or trespassing that appears to be on the brink of shots fired. Never to be heard from again. Maybe the shots really were fired (at the OP)?

This is absolutely not a disparaging remark but I would guess a lot of them are older and it’s a big deal for them them to post once let alone interact on forums. Then there’s the minority of first time young guys that are probably embarrassed at their lack of knowledge. Again not disparaging, just what comes to my mind. It is annoying but I still get a lot of trouble shooting pointers from contributors even if the OP never comes back so it’s still a win.

Some folks are not as addicted as we are to this website. :ROFLMAO:

Often they get online to do a search for a problem which brings them to this site, among others. Most likely they join several sites, post their question on each one and go away when they get their answer... often from their neighbor or a tractor dealer.

I agree totally. Posting how others have helped you, or how you resolved, or failed to resolve your issue is important - that is how you help others and how you acknowledge how others helped you. That is what makes the forum so useful and satisfying.

You are not alone in expecting op to follow up. As for excuses like being old or embarrassed, well la,,d da,,, many of us are old and lost count how many times we've been embarrassed but still take time to help.
The problem isn't a generational or regional thing,it has been around since humans appeard. It's outward evidence of inner traits such as selfishness ,greed, inconsideration, being a weseal, a head full of vanity and me me me me me

Quite true...they have a question, get responses (that, hopefully, answers their question) and move on...
Not tractor guys, like most of us, and have little interest in joining the community

I think you're over-analyzing

Easy fix , start a thread with a list of their handles here And ignore them second time around . Like people that borrow your tools and you have to remind them they never returned them. 😎 etc ....

Well consider this...

I once asked for advice for a tractor that was for sale in my ares that had a particular problem. I asked a particular question being specific. It took about two weeks to get an answer that wasn't smart assed or not concerning the stated problem. By then the tractor had been sold.

My conclusion was if I was not already a member I would say that this is not an overly helpful community and I would move on. But what do I know?

There are some guys on this website whose practical knowledge is both amazing and refreshing to see that there are still people who actually know how to get things done. There's a lot to be learned just by using the search feature and reading old posts.

Copy and paste this when replying in one of those threads.

" Let us know how it works out."

I wonder if the decline in the popularity of forums has resulted in an overall loss of etiquette? Facebook groups, a different animal altogether, have taken over in popularity; did that shift result in a loss of behavioral knowledge? People have forgotten how to interact with one-another in the real world, especially since COVID, could something in a similar vein happen online?

Yes. However, if somebody chooses to post a question instead he shouldn't be told to "use the search engine." Especially when they resurrect old threads, and people reply to the OP even though he hasn't been around in 14 years.

FB has been on the decline in the millions. Oddly, the decline is just about anywhere on the web for forums, blogs, comment interactions, etc. It's dropped like a rock.

Forums, unfortunately, seem to have been on the decline for a while; it's unfortunate, as I've been a fan of them since I was a teenager.

As for Facebook, I actually got rid of mine 2 or 3 years ago, but the missus is always on it. Nice to see they're losing more customer base, I like that.

Ohh dang OP! I found your man, two posts…two threads! Doing it right now! Fool us once, something something something fool us twice :ROFLMAO:

Yeah, I agree people should thank others but it boils down to if you are in need and don't want to join a forum then they probably won't return and may not even know where to return.

When I see a new call for help, I at least look at the number of posts to see if they are a drive-by or an active member. I will help anyone but being polite and grateful gets a little more from me.
