I am looking to install around 500 feet of 3 rail wood fence this month and add another 2000 feet to it next year.
Does anyone have a company in mind that will ship fencing wood at a good rate?

My local Tractor Supply has the material at $3.38 per foot. This is not bad but I just wanted to see if there was any better place out there.

It'd help if you let us know where you're located - either in your post or(preferably) in your profile. Look around for a fence supply house. I just did 1,000 feet of three rail pressure treated and the materials were a little less than $3.00 per foot IIRC.

SLightly off-topic, but does tractor supply carry decent quality PT fence posts? i.e. are they just as good as anywhere else, or perhaps not rated the same as the more expensive ones?

I ask, because a TSC opened up 30 minutes from me, never seen one before, and the prices were a lot cheaper than what I was paying before (which is good of course, as long as the quality is OK).

Anyone? Is TSC selling cheaper because they sell in volume, or are they selling "cheaper" stuff?

ejb...glad to hear of your good fortune of having a TSC near by!!
Be sure to check out the bulk nuts and bolts!! Head down the hydraulic aisle too. I moved to this place because it is exactly 12 miles between two TSCs!! Depending of which side of the property I'm on,of course...Also blessed with TWO MORE on my twice weekly route.Best place to do my thing while the wife does hers...she got her nails done... I done got my nails!!!

I was talking to a farmer that sells fencing materials and he made a point about TSC selling different kinds of treated posts than he did, something about white pine vs. red pine and that TScs were slightly cheaper than his but TSC's posts had more knots in them? Does this sound on the level?

I'd say you probably couldn't get it any cheaper then rough cut oak from the sawmill.

I buy #2 RR ties by the truckload(250 count).. 8-9 foot post.. 6"X8" width.. 4.65/piece(includes delivery)

Only problem.. the bundles of ties on the truck are about 3000lbs.. I push them off w/ the FEL.. or chain them and yank them off. Call Jason.. at MidWest Railroad Tie Sales.800-769-8437
