where\'s a good electronics forum?

Anybody know of any good forums that cover electronic subjects like Mini-DV camcorders, DVD players, and computers? I tried the electronics forum on GardenWeb and it's not very active. I've been to Best Buy, Circuit City, HH Gregg, and Walmart and the people don't seem to have their facts straight. My VHS camcorder is starting to act up and rather than put money into it, I've decided it's time to go digital, but there's a lot of choices out there so I need to do some research.

Re: where\'s a good electronics forum?

heehaw,

Digital is better for many reasons.

One is that analog video loses some quality every time it's copied, but digital does not lose any quality, the copy is as clear as the orginal. Even a copy of a copy is as clear as the orginal, but copy of a copy of analog gets noticably blurred.

Digital is easier to edit and the "boring" parts of a home video can be easily removed and the final copy is much more watchable. You can also do a lot of fancy editing with a home computer.

Another reason I want to go digital is so I can copy the video to DVD. DVD is pretty much permanent and doesn't wear out no matter how many times you watch it.

The down side of digital, besides expense, is that a Mini-DV won't hold as much. I'm still learning, but apparently 80 minutes is the max.

That's what I know so far. I'm hoping to learn more before I buy!

Re: where\'s a good electronics forum?

thanks for the explaination, in a lot of instances, digital is just a buss word, and analog is just as good or better, but i don't do much video stuff..i do like the more permanent part, i have a lot of vhs tapes of the kids and family, and i know they are gonna swarm on me some time, right when i want to show or look at-em...hopefully the prices of the digital will come down soon..
