Just curious what brand you would pic for the cheapo 54" mowers... John Deere, Cub Cadet, Husqvarna, Sears. I already have a garden tractor(troy bilt gtx18 48") and farm tractor(jd 300 backhoe). Im just looking for something that wifey can mow around the house with, so thats why im goin with a cheapo 54" mower. Rightnow im leaning towards the husky YTH26V54 or the sears version cuz of the smaller tires to save on tranny wear. I know they have tranny issue's, but i plan to modify mine so i can change the fluid. Not looking at used stuff cuz the wife wants new lolol. Thanks Chris

IMHO, I would not recommend that particular Husqvarna model(and I believe Husqvarna has the best bang-for-your-buck on lawn tractors)......specifically because of a bad experience I had with a Briggs & Stratton 24HP "Intek series" engine on a Craftsman(built by Husqvarna for Sears). I would worry about problems with that engine before I worried about any other component on the Husqvarna entry-level lawn tractors. Now I had an earlier model lawn tractor with a B & S "Vanguard series" engine and would highly recommend it. I would suggest you consider $200 more for the LGT2654 or $200 less for the 48" YTH24K48(a little smaller deck but a very good mower for that price).

I had a similar model of Husqvarna Lawn Mower. It was a 24 hp 54"" cut and I had it about 6 years. It was a good cutting machine as long as cutting grass was all that was asked of it. My biggest issue was also with the B&S Intek engine. More specifically it was the carburetor. The JETS kept falling out into the bowl. Yes the jets would fall out. I had it fixed twice - traded it after the second repair.

Mine did not have transmission issues although a friend did have some issues with his. It turned out to be the mounting of the transaxle that broke. It was repaired on some sort of deal through Husqvarna - not warranty but on a "customer buys the parts, Husqvarna pays the labor" or something similar. He got it fixed and no more issues that I am aware of.

I just noticed Husqvarna offers the same mower i mentioned, with a Kawasaki motor. Thats what I'm probably gonna go with due to the fact that im not a fan of Kohlers and Briggs newer crap engines. I have a good amount of experience in the landscaping field and Kawasaki has always been my motor of choice on zero turns and walk behinds..... i also love the Briggs big block aka Dihatsu made in Japan. The next issue is I dont have any great Husky dealers around, so I'm probably gonna bite the bullet and buy it online. I can avoid sales tax and the delivery is free. I really want to get a knock off Deere, but the price is a little more and i dont care for the Kohler Courage which is on majority of the mowers im inquiring about.

Buy a new john deere x738.

A X738 isn't a cheapo mower Noodles... A cheapo mower would be a home depot big box store mower.

The Husqvarna with a Kawasaki sounds good. Briggs engines in general aren't very nice at all. So that Husqvarna is probably the best way to go. Or something with a Kohler.
