I know a guy that had a husky and the frame broke in it. I am not sure what size it was. He replaced it with a another husky.

I would buy a used Cub Cadet 3000 series. You should be able find one for what a new 54'' rider will cost.

John Deere does have the D170 and X320 both come with 54" decks. One's around $2,700, the other which is better all around is probably double that.

You could get rid of your garden tractor and use that money and what you had planned to spend on a new mower and buy a older used compact tractor. You should be able to find a older Kubota b series, JD or a Yanmar with that money. You might get lucky and find one with a MMM. If not you could a rear finish mower.

The 21 horse Briggs & Stratton V Twin on my 10 year old MTD Troy-Bilt has been a real runner since I bought the mower new for $1500. It has cast iron cylinder sleeves and pressurized oil. I wouldn't hesitated to buy another one if I needed it. I've only changed the oil and filter every 2-3 years and mowed pastures over a foot tall with it. The only thing I've done to it besides oil changes is change the belts and a fuel hose. The mower is pretty beat now after 10 years of abuse but the engine is running like a champ and doesn't smoke or use oil. Just my 2 cents.

I have a Husqvarna 2046. Has a Kohler courage. The courage series is designed to be a 800 hr. engine.
I have 3 hundred some hours on it, the engine is fine, the steering is starting to get hard, no frame or transaxle problems. The deck is crap, the hangers have broken off the deck several times. Bad combination of materials, thin sheet metal and much thicker hangers do not weld together well. I repaired one side twice and the other once. Third repair I made large skins both front and back, welded and riveted in place.
I don't know that any machine in the budget price range would be any better though.
