Hello Yanmar Fans,

Please don't hate me because I drive Orange. I like Red & Green too. In fact, I have two air-cooled Yanmar engines, a 10HP L100AE that I'm going to power a log splitter with, and a 4HP L40AE that I'm going to power a small generator with.

OK, enough of that, let me get to the point. There is a YM1300D for sale near me with a cracked block. The owner has a block for it, but I would assume a complete rebuild ( new rings, bearings, etc) to move the guts over from the cracked block -- asuming that is no damage the crank, pistons, etc.

I would assume that there are several models of tractors that use the same engine, and also several size engines that are all the same block with different bore & stroke dimensions (for example, the Kubota D662 and D722 are the same block, the 722 just has a bigger bore and/or stroke).

So, three questions. The 1st one, is what do you think this tractor is worth in its current condition (seller is going to send me pictures). 2nd is what engines are interchangeable, and for how much $$. Third, is how available are rebuild parts?

Oh, BTW, it does have an front end loader, a Koyker, I believe.

Thanks,
Jay

The 2TR13 (original engine) for the YM1300/YM155 and the 3T72SB for the YM1401. There may be others?

Worth very little other than for salvage parts ($300.? for the tractor and $1K for a good used Koyker FEL)

Rebuild parts are fairly common and available for these engines.

Would any other of the 2TR series, such as the 2TR15 work? The 3T72SB is a 3 cylinder, wouldn't it have different external dimensions than the 2TR13?

The owner does have a spare good block, so I could just rebuild it.

Mark777-- thanks for the prices, that gives me a starting point.

The owner wants $2900, which I know is way to high. Even running, the most I see them go for as equipped is around $3500.

If there's a good spare block why not just rebuild it? You should have two of everything so the risk of a bad crank etc isn't so great.

And that little engine is so small you can rebuild it in your living room (assuming you rent) just like it was a HD engine or something. :D

But you need to get the guy way down on price first.

LOL!

You mean, "assuming you're not married" -- I am married, so rebuilding in the living room is out

"Just like a HD engine" I am offended good sir...Harley's do not need rebuilding, they just need occasional "refreshing". :D

I always assumed they were coffee table art until I looked close at one in a motorcycle and realized it was the same thing. :D

Honey, I need to take a bath, can you get the Yanmar engine out of the tub :)

The engine models I mentioned above are a direct fit to the bell housing....

The 3 cylinder 3T72SB has a water pump and may be slightly longer then the stock engine. Repositioning the radiator core support is probably all that's necessary. If you have the opportunity to examine the YM1300D again, check the rear transmission 'stamped' numbers and it should read 1300-1401 above the PTO. They are the same transmission other than the final drive gear ratio for FWD.

IMO, any decent running, well supported 4WD diesel tractor (Yanmar especially) is worth $3K. Your seller is asking $2900 to recoop losses on the Koyker FEL and the asking price seems too high. However if you price a new Koyker FEL to fit a small diesel Yanmar....it's a bargain. But, only a bargain IF everthing else on the tractor (hydraulics, 3PT, Pump, transmission, FWD components and fuel injection system) work properly.

A quick and dirty 'field' micrometer method to check the bore on the new/used block is using a standard piston ring. Place the ring at the top, measure the gap with a good feeler gauge, and do the same at the bottom of the cylinder. Both cylinders with any taper over .006 would require machine shop work or new cylinder liners.

Good luck

Mark
