OK So I am looking at a subcut and the only dealers with 1.5 hours are JD and Kubota. So between the JD 1 series and the Kubota BX series who has the better , tougher, longer lasting hydro tranny on hills and better, tougher, longer lasting hydraulic pump for heavy use?
Thanks
Chris

I don't think either one is "better" than the other in that regard, they are both well proven designs. The major considerations are dealer support, comfort/ergonomics, features/options, parts support down the road, and price.

Agreed, we are not hearing about any problems with either one of them or the hydraulic pumps either. Pays your money and takes your choice.

Deere and Kubota are considered the two mainline premium tractor brands, for which you pay a premium price.

Deere and Kubota sell used at a premium too, so you should recover most of the initial higher price when you sell, if you keep up maintenance.

Consider carefully if 9" ground clearance is enough for use on your hills.

Also consider if you really want a sub-compact tractor for "HEAVY USE".

Personally, I would be looking not at a 1,600 pound tractor but at a 3,200 pound, wider stance, longer wheelbase, larger tired tractor for "HEAVY USE" on hills

I have no idea about your situation, nor what you drive, but if you are considering a tractor lighter than your truck, consider further.

I see more details are needed.
The lot is 2.5 acres with 1/2 acre lawn and 1/2 acre garden and the rest woods. It is on a hillside in Western Washington so rain and plenty of it. The hillside is pretty overgrown and the amount of work to mow till clear and maintain the gravel drive (275') is more than I can do without a mechanical helper. I had a JD 322 garden tractor with wheel weights but it didn't like the hill even on the drive so I'm thinking 4 wheel drive. I don't think I have room for a tractor heavier than my truck because it's an 03 Silverado 3500HD dually 4X4 crew cab.
Thanks
Chris

Just my experience but a sub compact tractor is very good for maintaining a lawn and driveway. Larger tractors are better to initially develop the lawn and driveway. Might be better off to rent or hire out the initial work and then maintain it afterwards. Whether you choose the Deere, Kubota or other brands they all seem to be getting good ratings from the various members.

I don't think you have to worry about your tractor outweighing your truck, it weights at least 5600 and you have to get into utility sized tractors to get that heavy. Most 50HP and under CUT wont weigh more than 4000# even with ballast and implements and the sizes you are looking at will be under 2000#.

We have a BX and JD 2305 and can't really tell any difference in HST performance, I have no experience with the new 1 Series.

The front runner is the Mahindra 28xl hydro TLB with box scraper.

The closest dealer is John Deere then Kubota then Mahindra, Branson and Yanmar. Ventrac tractors seem nice but costly. I like the Mahindra 28xl hydro. as it is the heaviest and from what I am told it is overall of the strongest.
