Hello,
I am new to the tractor world and need your 2 cents. I have learned alot from TBN and need some advice. I am looking for a tractor for my 5 acres of pasture. The pasture is mostly flat w/ a little slope at one end. I have a few boulders I need to remove and pull a few stumps. But mostly, I will be using the tractor to maintain the pasture, muck stalls and arena work. I am considering getting a backhoe down the road (BH75). I heard that it is better to go a lil bigger, so I figure about 30hp would do. I have been looking at the B3030($17,800) and the L3400($17,300). I don't need a mid PTO but need the max load capacity on the FEL. Also, I am not too familiar with all the correct impliments I will need to maintain a horse pasture. Scapperbox big enough to cover the width of back wheels, chain drag harrow for manure, FEL toothbar sound correct?

Thanks,
Paco in Idaho

It depends upon how your barn and stalls are built (small door/big gate) would determine which machine is best.
It depends upon how many horses you have for five acres weather you will need anything but a drag to smooth things out.

I would be just bringing the tractor bucket to just outside the stall doors. I don't need to enter the stalls w/ loader.

I have 4 horses that stay on about 2 acres. I am in the process now of irrigating and planting pasture seed within the next month or so. After the pasture as taking hold I want something to breakdown the manure with.

That is a great tractor you have in mind for that size property and for working with Horses. I have the B7800 and can go straight into my stalls with it but that depends on your Barn layout. It will do everything you want and not be to big to maneuver around you property. The hoe is a lot of money. If it is in your budget that’s great but you can buy a lot of attachments for what the hoe will cost

The L3400 loader would be able to carry more than the B3030. The L3400 will also be able to pull a heavier box blade than the B3030 due to it's heavier weight & hp.
The ultimate thing is which tractor you are comfortable with, you need to test drive both and see which one fits.

Test drove both yesterday. Both turned on a dime and FEL joysticks were easy to operate. I can diffently fell the difference in size. The B3030 is more compact and sloped front is nice. But I think I like the idea of the more HP. I might need the extra power w/ pulling impliments and stumps, etc... So I think I will make an offer on the L3400HST. The dealer has quoted me $17,300 for the L3400 w/ LA463 and R4 tires. That is about 13% off the list as far as I can tell. Is that the best I can expect? Or should I offer $17k and see what he says? Or even ask him to through in a toothbar or something @$17,300.00?

Thanks,
Paco

I paid $16,100 for my L3400HST with R4's in WA. I thought the PNW was priced higher then anywhere else. Where are you located?

RE the model, it's been great so far (24hrs), I am going to get the tires filled or put some sort of ballast on it - haven't decided which, doing FEL work with heavy loads can make it a little light in the seat.

cheers,
bigballer

If interested, I'm in Central Illinois trying to sell a L3400DT with FEL, 26.4 hrs for $16K or Best Offer. I could do $15K if you pickup or $15.5 delivered, no taxes. artf@chilitech.com
