Which model should I purchase LT 1045 0r LT 1046

I have been doing a lot of research on which lawn tractor to purchase. I had wanted to keep my budget at about 1300. In-fact, I saw a Craftsman on sale for 1299. However, after doing a lot of comparative shopping I now have decided on the Cub Cadet tractor. I was going to purchase the LT 1042 but I was told that with an uneven lawn I would get a better cut with a 3 blade tractor. That brings me to my current dilemma. CC offers two models that will work for me. The 1045 and the 1046. Why should I pay another 100. for the 46? Will I notice the difference between the two models?

At this time I have less then an acre to mow. I do have a slight grade and there are some areas that are very uneven.

I like the 1046 because it has a 23hp v-twin Kohler Command. The 1045 has a 19hp single cylinder Kohler Courage... which is a new engine design.

If the difference is only $100... I wouldn't hesitate to get the 1046.

I believe that you would like the 1046 best, simply because of the twin cylinder vs the single cylinder. The twin cylinder will be smoother and quieter. Also, I believe that three (3) blades cut better than the two (2) blade style. These are just my opinions.

I purchased the LT 1046 in June of this year. I looked for a good two months before making my decision. The main reason I purchased the 1046 was the engine. THe 23 HP Kohler is very strong and reliable from what I have read and seen. The other reasons were what you get for the 1800.00 with a Cub Cadet vs what you get for 1800.00 with a John Deere.
The comparison of the 1045 and 1046 is mainly an engine preference. The 20 HP single cylinder Kohler in the 1045 and then the 23 HP twin cylinder Kohler in the 1046. I can tell you the 23 HP in the 1046 has plenty of grunt and runs very smooth. I am sure the 20 HP has plenty of grunt too. And the 23 Hp Kohler Command is a comercial grade engine. Every other detail about the mowers are the same.
Search Kohlers Web site for info on the two motors and see if that will help.

Well, after more research and reading all of the answers to my post it seems that it is clear that the 1046 is the best choice. Do these machines ever go on sale or does the manufacturer dictate the price and promotions?

No question the 1046 is a better machine...for no other reason than the motor. In fact Cub isn't even building the 1045 anymore. There won't be any sales through Cub, maybe better financing rates later in the year but then again maybe not. Just find a good dealer who is willing to work with you and you will be a happy camper.
