Asked in the TYM section but no responses- so thought I would check here-

guys looking at 4 tractors:All Cabs
2013 433 with 260 hrs=asking $21-
2015 454 with 160 hrs- asking $24-
Both of these are from a dealer-

2016 454 with 60 hrs - private sale- asking $24K
2011 503 with 530 hrs-private sale- asking $22- No service records but owner said he did all the changes himself-
The 2016 has not had the 50 hr. service done so how much should that run?-

All in great shape
Which one should I get and what is a fair price for each
thanks for all the advice=

Looks like the 433 is a shuttle shift (non-power shuttle so you have to clutch forward and reverse) and the 454 could be HST or Shuttle Shift (can you clarify?). The 433 manual lists Caterpillar/Perkins as motor but I believe it is a Perkins/Shibaura joint venture motor as the Perkins 404C-22 is the same as Shibaura N844L. I found a 2015 manual on TYM site for the 433 and it doesn't list any DPF or Tier 4 items so I'm guessing the T433 is Tier 3. The warranty is expired on the motor as Perkins gave 3 years max. The 454 is a Yanmar engine and based on page 4 of the 454 manual should come with a 3,000 hour or 5 year warranty - whichever comes first - and that warranty transfers from owner to owner so you should have 2 years of warranty left on the 2015 dealer model. It does have a Tier 4 DPF particulate filter. Specs are pretty close otherwise. The T433 was a little heavier but the T454 has higher flow hydraulics and much higher 3-point lift capacity. If you have the cash that 2016 sounds like the best deal since you would get 3 years of warranty still and super low hours. I would recommend getting that owner to show you paperwork verifying he/she purchased the tractor new and that it is not stolen - just cya basically. hth

Rngrry.....

Smal correction, tier lll only applied to 75+ hp. Tier lllb however, was the same as Interim tier 4.

The reference to possibly stolen tractors is very valid. The research you perform for members is admirable. Much more helpful than many of the opinionated off the cuff info posts, absent verifiable facts.

Looks like I need to do some more homework on all the tier levels, HP, implementation etc. I saw recently in another thread a nice graphic will have to go look that up again.

I'm stuck in limbo until I get the tractor and then it's go time on the property so hanging out here is a nice distraction and it is nice to try and help out others that are looking for info/advice on tractors - I don't necessarily have the experience to say buy this because I have experience using it but I'm pretty good at hunting down specs, prices and info and of course like any good TBN member I thrown in my :2cents: as well which is what makes TBN a great board because you get different viewpoints from a diverse group of members with all different experiences.

Bebop, here is a recent thread on that subject. I see a lot of $300-$400 numbers being thrown out.

The biggest problem with buying a used tractor besides the possibility of it being stolen is the possibility that it still has a loan against it that the owner is defaulting on. You could end up buying the tractor, the owner gets the cash and the bank still has rights to the tractor. This gets exponentially worse when you consider it may not have been financed through the manufacturer but could have a loan at Smalltown USA Bank but no way to know for sure. That's the problem with these since they don't have titles.

The T433 and T503 are both tier 3 tractors and the engines are made by Perkins or Caterpillar. The T454 is a tier 4 engine and made by Yanmar. To see if there is a lien on the tractor you could check with the county register of deeds.

The T433 and T503 will both have a nice big CAT on the engine, it is a CAT/Perkins engine. But all that I have seen have CAT on them. On the 2016 T454, I believe that it was only available in Shuttle Shift that year, I could be wrong, the T554 was either HST or Shuttle. I know Cabelas got the HST first in the 45 hp tractor. I would put an offer on the T433
