What do most use on the compacts? I have a Yanmar YM1700 and found one of the quick release ones for about $68 or one of the type that you have to drive the pin into for about $40. I would assume that since the tractor does not have live PTO that once you put it on it would stay on for all PTO attachments right? So why would you need a quick release? Maybe if you had two tractors and used it on both?? I would not mind the pin type as I would never remove it once installing.

See if Soundguy and I get into an argument on this again.

Here is why I do not have a pin on, on my tractor now.

SOME ORC's cannot hold the torque of a high torque implement (PHD in my case) and they will act like (I did not say substitute for) a slip clutch. In other words, when I had the particular pin on ones on my tractor, it would not operate or PHD, it would just "slip" I tried 3 different ones, from two different places and all the pin on ones did it.

That said, my quick release one that is there now, works my PHD just fine and stays pretty permanently on the back of my tractor.

Other points to ponder.

We have a landscaping business, so we run a PHD all the time. You may never run one so all this may be moot too you.

Something else I have been doing with my quick disconnect one is that I have a chipper with an extremely short little drive shaft. I want as much engagement of the shaft as possible so I left it a tad longer then maybe I should have, and what I do is release the QD on the ORC and push it forward (towards the tractor) slide the chipper drive shaft on, then slide everything back and lock it into place.

Good luck with whichever way you go.

I've used the pin on style on a couple of older Ford tractors. I have never had an issue with them, but if doing it again I would get the quick release. There are times the ORC gets in the way of an attachment on the 3ph. It would be nice to pop it off if needed, without any tools. It would also be nice to put the PTO cap back on when not in use, especially in the winter.

I would spend the extra money for a quick-release also, I used one on my YM240. But that's because I have several implements with PTO shafts of varying length. By design, the ORC necessarily lengthens the PTO stub. Which - with a pinned ORC - might necessitate cutting the shaft down. If that particular shaft is not on an implement that actually needs clutch action, it's easier to remove the ORC than to cut the shaft.

Plus, they're easily removed for cleaning and regreasing.
