I am in the market for a new rotary mower. I have a 50hp tractor and cut about 10 acres each month. I was looking at the CountyLine brand that tractor supply carries just for convenience and price. Is a 50hp tractor too much for these brush cutters? Any suggestions on the best bang for the buck (I know thats what everyone wants) just wanted someone else's advice, experience, etc. Thanks for all replies.

I had a 47 pto hp tractor and operated a 6' HD Landpride without any problem.
Very sound mower..can cut up to 2.5" trees.

If you are cutting the same 10 acres monthly, the mower isn't going to be worked very hard compared to actually hogging brush. I think you would be fine with a standard duty mower.

I have a 10-year-old 6' Woods Brush Bull. It's the medium duty model and has held up to some serious use and abuse. I think it would last forever just mowing grass and weeds.

Yep. If it is the same 10 acres getting cut every month, you arent going to be working the mower hard. But if you are cutting a different virgin 10 acres each month, with lots of unknowns, then you want a HD mower for sure.

IF it is the same 10 acres, and you have all the time in the world, a cheap med-duty 6' cutter from a box store would last several years.

IF you want to speed things up and have a mower that will last a lifetime, get a 8' twin spindle cutter from a higher end brand. Woods, bushhog, landpride, etc.

If your just cutting weeds and grass you can sharpen your blades and it will zip through better and you won't overload your cutter's gearbox. Downside is if you decided to cut some brush you'll leave sharp stobs that might puncture your tires. I don't think your cutters will be damaged by your stronger tractor but sharp blades might help give you some leeway. Just my experiance.

I have found Kodiak rotary cutters to be a good value.

Available as Kodiak brand and available as Mahindra brand.

Most any brand should work. The question is size.
5' mower =8 hours mowing
6' mower =6 hours mowing
7' mower =4+
The cost of the new bigger cutters goes up about 50% per foot. It makes a used mower tempting. I bet you might find a bigger mower that suits you for $1500-$2000 that will last a lifetime.
