I'd be more inclined to go with the belt driven model. Pitman arms like to break.

Is the belt drive, trailing or 3PH?

Belt drive generally has a much wider range of operation. I'd go that route every time.

The 41 will give you more flexibility in the angles you can mow. 70 degrees below horizontal and 90 degrees vertical. Pull type usually require hydraulic remotes to raise and lower a cylinder? Picture of a Massey #41 we have in stock below. Ken Sweet

I too vote for the belt. It's smoother operating and the cutter bar is closer to operator for better visibility. One advantage of the pitman mower is that you can offset the whole rig with your lower arm stabilizers to get more reach over soft ground etc.

I might add, if you don't have rocky ground and woody brush, I think you CANNOT BEAT a Kuhn disc mower. Fast. Smooth.,,,NO maintenance to speak of. I' been using mine for 10 years with only annual blade sharpening.

I have an MF31 belt driven sicklebar so I'd go with the 41.
Don't know the condition of that 41 you're looking at. The sicklebar on mine needed a complete rebuild (new sickle sections, new guards) and the 7-ft long steel bar that carries the sections was bent and had to be replaced. Couldn't find one already made so I had to get some steel bar stock and drill about 60 holes in it for the sections (4 sections per foot) and for the attachment to the drive unit. Also be sure to check the outboard shoe and the end of the sicklebar to be sure that the fit is correct there and the sicklebar slides properly. It helps to get the operator, parts and service manuals also.

the mf is a 3pt. that is the one im prolly going to get. it is on the way to the grand canyon we are going their for christmas.... the jd is in bakersfield way cheaper but the wrong direction for me... would not mind a disc mower but for 5 acres, not in the cards until i can find more land to play on!

I too like a disk mower but i use the New Idea 10'. Which is now the Massey Ferguson.
