NuBota said:jcaledon - just curious - did you look at the S3B Model? If so, why did you choose the M96 over it - both are 3 bushel. the flex PTO shaft looked interesting
Anyone else have either model?
I've been trying to get a spreader for over a month - been leary to buy one online. TSC has the smaller XB model (5 bu) but my store doesn't stock it. My Dealer carries Befco and Landpride. He had a smaller Befco, which was perfect for what I want - but the bottom of the hopper was already rusting/corroded - just by sitting outside (paint had flaked off). He told me he had the smaller Landprides coming in weeks ago - but they haven't got in yet - he has been contacting me weekly - evidently there are issues with the distributor. But even so, looking at their website, the Landpride looks exactly like the King Kutter (made by cosmo I think). The Landpride FSB500 is more $$ than the KK so it it is in fact the same, I will pass on it.
Would welcome any input on any of the other brands - but like the Herd now - glad I caught this post
Thanks
Eric
Eric,
I was initially interested in the S3B, especially because of the PTO shaft which you can run at 960 rpm. Plus, because it is flexible, I figured I could leave it on the B2620, and disconnect the flexible shaft. The new B series Kubota won't let you run the MMM without also running the rear PTO. However, when I spoke to Herd, and then their distributor, they steered me towards the M96. I don't think that Herd makes the S3B - the distibutor suggested that it was manufactured by a third party. Their distributor didn't even have any in stock, and told me that it wouldn't be until the fall until he could get me one.
Because of the reviews that I've seen here, I just went ahead and ordered the M96. It appears to be the most solid, overbuilt spreader you can get. The hopper is galvanized, and the metal on the balance of the spreader is very heavy gauge. Apparently, they have been using the same design since WWII, and they just don't break down.
