which tire chains to get?

i tried my new 3038 john deere out in the snow the other day and there was some loss of tractor with the r4 tires that i have and wanted to buy some chains. but what chains are the best outthere. the tires are loaded with steel weights.

There are many that "are the best".
Might read up on the many, many threads discussing tire chains and try to sort through the variety of chains discussed.
Usually, the best are the ones the owner is using. Just the nature of the beast that we are most proud of what we have selected and are using.

I think any chain will be an improvement, and some work better on ice, some better on deep snow, and some are more comfortable on hard drive surfaces.

The best chains are the ones that fit! I ordered a set (by size, mind you) and when I went to put them on, they were way too long. We're getting ready for a resizing day once we gather the right tools.

Can you give a little more information? Things like do you plan on driving on pavement or cement, if so an aggressive chain could tear it up. Is your driveway steep? if so then a simple ladder chain may not be enough. Do you plan on going into the woods to do something like logging? If so then you'll want at least 3/8" thick chain.

Do you have a budget you have to stay under or are you willing to spend more now with the idea that a set of chains can last as long as your tractor so you might as well spend extra now and not wish you had a few years from now.
