I originally posted this over in the Hydraulics forum, but got no replies, so I thought I would try here.

I am building a front end loader for my Kubota tractor and I need some advice on which control valves to use.

As I am also building a 4 in 1 bucket I will need an additional double acting valve to control the open & close of the bucket.

Currently I am looking at 2 joystick valves from Surplus Center (9-7401 & 9-4782) but I am unsure about which valve to choose for the bucket.

Idealy I would like one that bolts directly to the joystick valve forming a single 3 spool block, but I cant figure out from their catalogue which ones would be suitable.

If anybody has some advice on which valve to choose and which of the 2 joystick valves would be best, I would appreciate it.

Also feel free to pass on any other perls of wisdom that you think might help with my project.

Cheers

Sorry I missed your other post...but sometimes it takes a while to get some replies;)

Welcome to TBN:D

Ideally I would like one that bolts directly to the joystick valve forming a single 3 spool block, but I cant figure out from their catalogue which ones would be suitable.

To do this, then the best solution is to use the Prince SV valves, then you can "build your own" three spool valve with a joystick on two of the spools. You will end up spending more money, but it will make for a very clean looking install.

If you have the current catalog(#281-2008) then look on page 14 for the spools, and page 15 for the handles (part # 9-1905 or 9-1904)

Thanks for the reply

So so you buy 3 seperate valves, bolt them together and add a joystick type handle to operate 2 of them.

I assume I can get one of the valves with a float position?

If I went the route of using the joystick valves I originally quoted, then the third bucket valve would be seperate and connected by hoses rather than bolted directly on?

BTW is there any other suppliers you would recommend or is Surplus Center the best.

Thanks for the advice

Cheers

Basically, you "build" the valve however you want...

Yes, you can get a float detent...
Do you have the paper copy of the catalog?

Yup-you got it :)

I like dealing with them...they are good to work with if you call them, and the prices are pretty much the cheapest also.

Yep I have their catalog, and I'm decoding the ordering system now

I'm sure it's straight forward, but I just need to get it straight in my head.

I will post my deductions back here for checking if that's ok.

Yes, please post back...you can/should also call them before you order to confirm you get what you want.

Ok I think I have got it all worked out.

The item number is as follows;

9SV-3-Y-DBB

This translates to 3 valves with open center and power beyond port as I need to plumb it in series with my existing 3PT stuff on the tractor.

The first spool has the float position (I assume this is double acting?)
The second and third are standard double acting spring center return

I also need one 9-1905 ofset handle to create the joystick function.

I assume 2 standard handles I won't need as I will be replacing them with the joystick, so I guess they just become spares.

The 3rd spool handle which will be controlling the bucket open/close seems to me like it will be pointing in the wrong direction compared to the joystick. Is it normal to just heat and bend the handle, or is there an option to mount it differently?

I'm also wondering about whether this configuration will allow movement of more than one axis at a time i.e. can I lift and curl at the same time. I note the "Series Spool Type" valves. Do I need these types to do this?

Or in reality is it normal to just operate one axis at a time.

I have a backhoe on this tractor driven by a PTO pump and it can drive multiple axis at once, but the pump struggles a bit with the flow when I do that.

I agree with your part #

-If you read the description for the joystick handle it says "Spools can be operated independently or simultaneously"
-Not sure on which way the third handle will point, that would be a good question if you call.
