while we\'re talking about kingcutter so much...

Anyone have anything to say about their shredder they sell at TSC? I found them to be a decent looking med duty cutter. 600.00 for a 5'er was priced right. Any pro's or cons? My little 25 hp can't handle much weight and I've about beat the crap out of my old howse, so I'm thinking about a new one. Thanks in advance.

Re: while we\'re talking about kingcutter so much...

A few years back, I bought one at an auction. (6') It waswith the intention of re-selling for a few bucks profit. WHile I had it, I tried it out. At that time, I had a Woods MD172 (6') I could only compare the two. The KK had quite a bit more vibration in it. Seemed to be a driveline imbalance. I also noticed it being "short-coupled". In other words, it was closer to the back tires than the Woods, when it was raised. So close in fact, that it hit the tires, where the Woods had 2-1/2" of clearance.

Other than that, it seemed as good as any other low priced mower.

I have a 6' King Kutter brush mower. I'm happy with it, works fine, no problems.
I'd like to be able to lower the cut height a little more for mowing my field without the front of the cutter digging into the dirt, but other than that no complaints.

Disclaimer... My sister is an accountant for King Kutter...

I purchased a 5' Kutter this past fall to pull behind my 26 HP Mahindra. I only have about 3 or 4 hours on the Kutter so far, but have been well pleased. The biggest complaint is the paint job. It's a bit on the light side and could definitely use another coat. Seems to be built fairly soundly, but not as heavy as some other brands (a good thing for smaller tractors like ours). It's very well balanced on my tractor with the loader on front. Without the loader, I'd probably need some weights on front. My dad has a 7' KK that we pull behind his 72 HP Ford 5900. We do need some weights on the front of his tractor as the big 7 footer makes the frontend very light.

The combination of the two is perfect for our needs. The 7 footer on the bigger tractor will cut whatever the tractor runs over (if you keep the RPMS up and the forward speed slow), and the 5 footer on the smaller tractor handles the lighter work and in tight spots.

Good luck,

BR

I have used a KK rotary mower for some years now and am happy as well.

Vince we had the same problem until we set the stop on the 3 point lift so that it didn't come down quite to the bottom then adjusted the top link longer so the deck touches on the back end and doesn't drag on the front end. That dang mower works a lot better cutting brush than plowing dirt. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: while we\'re talking about kingcutter so much...

I have a 24HP Kubota and have the 5' King Kutter rough cut. It works very well, however, I waited tooooo long to add a set of lift pins lower down on the attachment. Sure helped to raise the thing high enough for transport. I'd recommend you look at doing that quickly.

Re: while we\'re talking about kingcutter so much...

On both TSC KingKutters my wife and I own, the trailing wheel pivot needs to be kept greased more than my previous Howse. I've worn out one Howse structurally and one gearbox on a 5' KK, but I abused them severely, so I can hardly blame it on the cutters or KK gearbox. The Howse gearbox I had bolted right to the KK deck and I'm still in business. My wife's KK is our "clean" model. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I like the KK because I think it's structurally stonger than the Howse, and I've never spent $600 that I'd consider more value. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've got a 5' KK mower.. had it about 5 years now.. No complaints.. runs good. I've had it behind my 26 hp 8n, 33 hp NAA, and 33 hp ex-NH1920.. cut everything it has ran over.. ant mounds, lumber.. rocks.. tires.. etc.

Nothing more than a few scratches on the paint.

It's those daggone "ect"'s that'll get ya every time.

I decided to play around with the bush hog yesterday afternoon. I had a little thicket that needed cleaning up. The previous owner (of the property) told me he thought there was a steel post marking one corner of the property in the thicket.

I found it.

Or rather, the Bush Hog found it.

No damage, other than some frayed nerves.

Re: while we\'re talking about kingcutter so much...

It is amazing the racket that occours when the ole' imovable object meets the irresistable force. For those that have never mowed with a rotary cutter and encountered an obstruction in the bushes.. it's hard to describe. i remember when I hit my first football sized rock with my rotary cutter. I thought the rear of the tractor exploded.. amazingly enough.. shear pin didn't go.. and there was no damage. Did notice a little crushed rock along the edge of the blade.. but didn't even knick the blade... good thing it was a limerock boulder and not flint...

( I can tell you from personal experience also.. that an old tire/rim will scare your pants off too! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif )
