Kubota L3010 HST
I have a L3010 HST and have 85 hours on it. I noticed this weekend that the transmission would start to whine whenever I released the clutch. In low or medium, the noise is almost unnoticeable, but in high, you can hear it quite easily. I did not change my transmission filter and oil at 50 hours after my Toyota Tech. told me it was not necessary until at least 150 hours. Could this noise be coming from a plugging oil filter?

So a Toyota Tech. told you to not do what Kubota says to do to a Kubota? And you listened to him? I'm not a mechanic, but I do want my equipment to be in warranty as long as possible, so I try to follow the manufacturer's recommendations. All HSTs have some whine, so I can't say whether yours is abnormal or not, but I'd darned sure change that hydraulic oil & filter immediately, if not sooner.

I also have a 3010 HST and it does have "a little" whine in high that is considered normal. I also would do the oil change ASAP as your screens are accumulating breakin metal shavings etc and could be slowing down hydraulic flow etc. This is a lot of machine to risk over a few hundred dollars that it would take for the first oil change.

You mean it don't use hydraulic fluid? Sorry, it had to be done.

Mark,

I don't want to be insulting, but did you release the parking brake first. I often forget and leave it on until the increased whine of the hst catches my attention.

I also agree with the others: Do the scheduled maintenance. You won't be sorry in the long run.

I'll take a kick at the horse, even if it's dead.

Do the maintenance and document that you did it. If nothing else, it will protect you if you ever need to make a warranty claim. If you've never done the required service and a warranty issue comes up that is reasonably attributable to lack of service, you could find yourself paying for the repair, not the warranty.

Your Toyota Tech DOES NOT deal with hydrostatic transmissions! The single MOST important service on a hydro transmission is the initial 50 service! If you could see some of the services done on the BX and B27,2910 models which have the transmission pick up screen, you would see the amount of aluminium filings that float around during break in. These are in you filters on an L series and may restrict fluid flow!!! Change it!!!

I have a L3010HST with about 85 hours on it. I noticed a slight whine around 30 hours. Since I did the 50 hour service the whine has not returned.
