White 2-60 FWD, JD x320
Hi
I'm a newbie here and the new-to-me owner of a 1978 White 2-60 MFWD (Fiat 640DT). I have the owners manual and it calls for White type A hydraulic oil 30-311 6352 for the power steering fluid (looks like ATF in there) and universal hydraulic oil 30-311 6360 for the trans, drives and steering box.
It also calls for the same universal hydraulic oil 30-311 6360 for the FWD front diff and drives, but it looks and smells more like they have a 90w gear oil in there.
Engine is easy because it it does say a 10w30 oil.

I even have a AGCO Heritage 2007 catalog, but it makes no references to these old numbers.

The only "Heritage dealer is too far away and I just want to make sure I'm using correct oils and I want the correct oil in the the front end.
What would be their modern equivalents?

Thanks for your help, Mark

OK for universal hydraulic oil are they talking about TDH?
The "gear" oil in my front diff is lighter than the 90W gear oil I'm used to and is a yellow-ish color.

I'm in Canada and a local FLAP store is Canadian tire, they list an AW oil and TDH.
In the Q&A section they state "the MotoMaster TDH, will meet the requirements of AGCO Permatran III which is now called AGCO Permatran 821XL" also meets "John Deere JDM J-20C"

Does White "type A" = AW and "Universal" = TDH ?

If anyone is looking for the same question I found the answer, I bought a Fiat 640 service manual off of evil-bay.
The manual calls for Ambra 20W40 summer and 10W30 below 0*C (32*F)

Ambra is just a brand name in Europe and 20w40 is not available in NA so talking to a oil rep we decided 15w40 will be fine. If your real **** about it maybe every 10th quart drop in a bottle of 20W50.
So just plain old motor oil in everything, engine, trans, redux boxes, front end, hubs, power steering and air filter.
I'm using Delo 15w40 and it's a lot, best to get a couple of pails.

Got the same tractor and you will find out that power fluid steering is alot thinner then 10-30. !5 =40 and you will not like cold weather for steering. One size does not fit all.

For the power steering part back in the old days (okay, not really old days, but 50's) the standard transmission oil was automatic transmission oil type A. It was commonly used in power steering systems of the period. Dexron III is backward compatible. Not sure about Type A but some of the automatic transmission oils of that period were whale oil and with the near hunting to extinction of whales in that time period and the resultant moratorium on whale hunting, different base oils were developed i.e. GM with Dexron and Ford Type F.

Thanks, although it works fine now I was thinking it might be a bit thick on a southern Ontario winter.

MHarryE mention Dextron III, which IIRC is a tranny fluid, may I ask what you use?
