This is a tough one...(for me & the tractor folks around here). Here's what I Know:
1. I own a Ford tractor
2. It is a diesel
3. it has a live PTO
4. It HAD a circle emblem at one time.
5. It Appears to have a workmaster grill. (not sure if it belongs to the original)
6. The serial number has been completely removed
7. 4 forward gears & reverse.

There are many numbers that I am baffled by. I had a local mechanic tell me it was an 801 based on....? I have plenty of photos and numbers, hope I can get some of the photographs uploaded.
Numbers:

front of right brake pedal - 310835right axle - A298engine block r. side - 310609r. front wheel - c9NN-1106-0under the seat - (it appears to be NGA 601 (Drop down) B (Drop Down) 70 upside down F&2 dots).
l. side under gear stick : 81v: then 310383
left side engine - 310859

There are a few more numbers here and there...but I don't know where to start! I have plenty of photos I can upload, (If I can figure it out)

here's the deal.

4 spd trans means you have a non live pto.. no question about it.

to get a live pto on an 01 it would have to be a 10spd SOS powershift and would be independent pto.. or it would be a 5spd trans with a dual stage clutch.

4spds are single clutch.

diesel means it is a 59 or newer, thus an 01 series.

641D or an 841D should be in the bellhousing if that is the oem engine / trans number is weakly hand stamped on t he flat of the bellhousing just back ytowards the operator, from the starter. if a 601 it is a 144ci .. if a 801 then a 172CI.. the 172 are more desireable due to part$ availability.

Part number identifiers cast into 134 , 144, and 172 engine blocks (lower right side)

these are raised cast numbers, not hand stamped.

EAE 6015 - 134 1953-1957
EAF 6015 - 172 1953-1957
310905 - 134 1958-1959
310609 - 172 1958-1959
B9NN-6015C - 134 late 1959 early 1960
B9NN-6015A - 144 late 1959 early 1960
B9NN6015J - 172 late 1959 early 1960
CONN-6015C - 134 late 1960-1964

forgot to mention.. the diesel models usually poured alot of acid ontot he bellhousing obliterating the model id :(

I see the starter mount at the location has seen some lovin :)

lastly. most people when they change tires go back witht he same that was on it when they got it.. and so on.

8xx came with 13.6-28

6xx with 12.4-28

that's not a for sure ID'er... but it can help till you get the block casting number..

You are quick on the draw with that info! Okay, so the engine is stamped 310609, did both 841 & 641 have that engine?

Tomorrow, I will do a thorough search and take photographs of anyting else that might help.

BTW - what about powersteering ption? IS that/was that available? I have read so many horror stories about FEL's on older Fords without powersteering!

310609 - 172 1958-1959

thus the block is the 172 block.. in a diesel.. that is more desireable.

the sheet metal is missing the egg crate grill of the 801 series.. that's normally how you tell a 601 from an 801, plus the paint job.

mind you sheet metal and paint are not good indicators as you can swap metal around from 53-64 with a lil work.

ps.. machine looks real good.. and is so far looking like an 841D

factory power steering was available in late 54...

to add it now you would need a new steering box, the pump, rad hose inlet / bracket, pulley and some other bits.

best to find a non runner / parter in a junkyard and grab all the parts there.

jackson power steering also makes a kit.. not cheap though.. converts it to orbital valve style steering.

ps is nice with a loader. I have machines with and without PS and loaders.
