Buying Advice Who can tell me about this tractor ?

In an effort to make a quick buying decision, I was wondering if you guys could tell me about this tractor, Its a "Harry Ferguson" and the owner is an old guy that bought it already restored and does not know much about it. I was wondering what year it is, and what HP it has, and any other useful info that might influence a decision. I would be using for general bush hogging, plowing and scraping....

Just a guess but maybe a TO 35, more popular than the other Harry Ferguson tractors. Does it have a live clutch? The early models with a transmission driven pto I would stay away from. If you get the serial # you might be able to figure out what year it is on Tractordata.com. This tractor is atleast 50 years old.

Steve, This is where I am a little fuzzy on the "live PTO" Definition, It will engage the PTO while not in gear, but he had a little contraption on the end of the PTO shaft the extended it about 6 inches, and he told me that it "kept the bushhog from pushing the tractor" so I am guessing that once the PTO is engaged, it will continue to push the transmission till is stops ? I have a picture if that will help.

Pictures work better now, since you added the sn plate go to TractorData.com - information on all makes and models of tractors and see if you can match it up.

You are likely referring to an over running clutch add on to the pto shaft.

Thanks Steve, looks like a TO 20 - 1950 Model..at about 25 HP, And for what I am wanting to do, I don't think is the tractor for me, I am not the drive in the parade kinda guy. Would anyone have any idea what this tractor in the condition above would be worth ? The Guy is asking $3800 for it.

Was the "$3800" a typo? Or just a ridiculously high price?

TO20 and TO 30's sell for $1200 to $1500 in decent shape. That one isn't quite what I'd call "restored" so much as it is "refurbished". (Should be ALL Ferguson gray, no red, no "corporate wheel gray" on wheels, in addition to a few other "non-stock" pieces) With good rubber, in excellent running order, ect, it's still worth something like $2000 max. For his price, you could get a nice tractor that's near double the HP, better gearing selection, live power, 15 or 20 years NEWER, and far more capable.

This is great info to have...a friend of mine has a 98 model JD 775 I really have my eye on, at a fair price...now if he would just sell it already !!
