I had the top blown out of a royal palm tree in my backyard after one of the hurricanes (it's been hard to keep track of them recently
) and before I could cut it down some birds had pecked out nest holes in it so I decided to leave it up until it falls down on its own. The other morning I was trimming some limbs in a nearby tree when I looked up and saw this owl staring back at me. I know for those of you who live in more rural areas this isn't such a big deal but I live about a 1/2 mile west of the Atlantic sandwiched in between Fort Lauderdale and Miami. We have the usual exotic, tropical animals like parrots, alligators, iguanas and manatees but it was really neat for me to see this owl take up residence in a palm tree in this very urban environment. Now he can keep company with the possum I see out wandering around the yard at night. I attached a photo of the owl from this past weekend and one of an iguana that was out sunning in front of my neighbors the Thanksgiving before last
