I came across a nearly new Craftsman 42 ride on mower several years ago... a plant was closing and they were selling off surplus.
Bought it without really having a need.
Back in February brother moved to an old ranch property and I took the mower out and left it in his barn after I mowed a couple of Saturdays all day.
Who knew the nieces and nephew love mowing and now have to take turns on who gets to mow... also when the cousins come over, they want their turn to mow...
Now it's summer and they are kind of sad because there is nothing to mow... so I let them drive it around the 65 acres and it's fun seeing how much they enjoy it...
I'm sure in time the fun part will diminish... in the meantime, it sure has reinforced my role as the number one uncle.
My brother keeps the keys so they have to ask to use it... even if they wear it out towing the little trailer with a hay bale to the pasture it's been money well spent.
We set up a to do list... check the oil and tire pressure and gas before going out and wipe it down when done... even the youngest at 8 is so conscientious about checking the oil...
If nothing else, they are learning about equipment and having a lot of fun... I'm sure they will remember that little mower fondly years from now...
And... when mowing... no one is allowed in the field except the operator... explained you never know what might be in the grass and the only safe place is in the driver's seat...
