There are quite a few good metal detectors on the market these days. I have owned a Garrett metal detector for several years and my uncle has owned several Garrett detectors over the last four decades and we have both been very happy with them.

Other popular brands include White, Tesoro and Fisher.

Here are some links you might want to check out:

Here's another one that deals with treasure hunting:

Good luck with your search.

I would suggest that you take a look at Minelab. They are really at the cutting edge of detectors.

I own two Fisher units and am very happy with them. That is a great sport looking for the unknown. Over the years I have recovered thousands of old coins, rings, watches, and other items. Both the wife and I go out as often as we can.

You have got some good info give here , any of the listed will work , if you learn to use the machine , and not let it sit in a closet collecting dust , it ' a great hobby , a little research and luck you can get some great finds ...
Good Hunting ...

Not sure of the best one, But I have a Garret that I like to use every now and then at the beaches along the northshore In Massachusetts. Have found some lost jewlery for people there also. that sand just sucks them up and without it it's almost impossible to find them. It does the job for what I do with it.

I would have to agree with Brant, that Minelab has to be the best, really on the cutting edge. But then again they cost quite a bit too. I have had good luck with a Fisher, over the years, and find it very good, I still have my White I started with, and it is also very good, of course both the Fisher and the White are the top of their line, detectors though. But if I were to get another one, it would have to be a Minelab.
