Popcorn is grown in fields that are worked by tractors, so there's the connection. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think I just saw where popcorn counts as a whole grain in the new food pyramid or whatever it's now called. Happy days! I have been known to nearly live on popcorn in lean times...some students lived on tuna and mac and cheese, I lived on popcorn and the occassional visit to the Colonel's when I was feeling rich. I wonder if soaking it with butter adds value? I popped it in a pot back then, 'twas before microwaves replaced all other cooking appliances, and I could get butter pretty cheap, too. I always thought it was amazing how a handfull of grain ended up filling a big pot and then me, for a few cents.

25 lbs of theater popcorn is about $10. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

That will last about one year at my place. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Have you tried growing your own.. I remember my dad growing some strawberry popcorn when we were young. I've noticed in some seed catalogs that they have a larger variety of popcorn seeds.. could be fun!

I haven't had success yet with the regular sweet corn I've tried. I need a bigger plot just for corn, and if I ever get to that point I very well may try some popcorn, too. Trouble is, I'm lazy, and the microwave bags are so very easy I might not be able to revert to the old-fashioned way of popping it. I don't even have my old hot air popper anymore because my dear wife ran across it a while back, and even though it wasn't taking up any valuable real estate, she decided we never used it and tossed it out. I try to do something valuable, myself, every once in a while, so she doesn't decide I can be tossed too.
