I have one, identical to one shown in above photo except I have repainted mine red. I use it in my field after I have harvested crops, it is called a disk plow, however here in New Brunswick my sod is too heavy and dry to use this as a sod cutter so I use it to level my field in preparation for next years crop. I have found it useful, it works well with my 75 hp , my old 30 hp massey is too light for it.

I am familiar with conventional discs of several kinds, and their use, but this one is powered. Does that let it do the work of a much heavier unpowered disc?

Never seen or heard of such a thing before. I've pulled lots of different kinds, brands and sizes of discs - tandem, offset and one-way - but this is a new one on me. Of course, all my experience is 40 years ago, so I'm stuck in the stone age.

The only reason I can think of for it is that the rotation causes the blades to cut the ground like slicing with a knife or saw blade. Maybe it could be used to cut through the roots of heavy sod.

Perhaps Troysie can elaborate on its use or point to a video of it being used.
