Why are 60" ZTRs so much more popular than 72"

Hopefully, not too much of a thread hijack:

I need a 60" ZTR for my 38 acres, of which about 5 acres I mow. What are the commercial brands out there that are good. I don't plan on buying anything from HD/Lowes but will probably try to get a good used commercial.

Thanks,
Well there is Hustler, Ferris, Scag, Kubota, John Deere, Toro, Exmark, Gravely. And I'm sure there are several that I am missing that make very good commercial grade mowers

6ft deck is a lot of metal to be held up. Longevity would be my concern especially if your on rough ground
I'm betting that most any commercial grade zero turn large enough to offer a 72" deck is more than strong enough to handle the weight.
My Hustler Super Z is built heavy duty. This machine can/will handle weight of the 72" deck no problem at all. And it is a very heavy duty built mower deck.

I understand it will hold it... But how long will it hold it when compared to a 60 inch...? Are there any changes in support for the deck between the 60 and 72 in your model?

Like I said.
My Super Z is built like a tank.
It will carry the extra weight of the 72" deck indefinitely.
It is a non issue..

for anyone with horses exmark and toro offer the equine savings program which gives 26% off msrp I just ordered a toro 6000 60 inch with 34 hp efi kohler and horizon technology for $11,000 plus tax or in NC $11,743 after taxes

Not a bad price. To the poster who said holding onto those two handles for long periods can be taxing. I mow 40+ acres every week during the mowing season. One property is 8 acres. I can honestly say those handles are not tiring at all.

One thing I would suggest, is get the suspension seat, your back and back side will thank you...

72" mower is about 74" wide. Most trailers are no more than 78" wide. Loading it can be a real pain, unloading is worse.

It can be. My nephew has a 72" I use once in a while. Definitely less wiggle room, but if you use a Z turn quite a bit, it's not too bad.

I have had a 72" Exmark for the last 4 years. I only cut my property, It is flat, Never needed to put it on a trailer since I've owned it. If I ever get another, it will be a 72". I bought it from a commercial outfit and the guy told me they would not likely buy any more 72's. With the 60" they did not need to be as careful about scalping, and they did municipal mowing on roadway medians and the 60 negotiated the obstacles better.
