Why are international 3588 so cheap used?

They are far from being a good looking tractor, but for what you get they are selling cheap. A local farmer has one, it runs great for him. If I told you what he payed for it, you wouldn't believe me. Basically he said that he paid more for a gas oliver than what he paid for it.

Is there a design flaw with them or don't people like them because of looks?

One of the biggest reasons they never caught on around here was the fact that the cab is behind the articulation joint where all or at least most other brands have the cab in front of the articulation joint. It makes for a very different "feel", especially when you're turning around at the end of the row.

They were called "anteaters" around here. :laughing:

It's interesting how there is a different perception between heavy equipment and farm vehicles. Case w series loaders were a flop because the cab articulated.

IIRC there were a few reliability issues as well. I've seen a few around but not half as many as similar vintage JD 4wd's. Seemed like a good manufacturing concept, but I think the sales #'s just weren't there.

And they were butt ugly. And I say that as a Case fan (former 580K owner)

the cheap price has nothing todo with what the tractor looks like or the way it was built.the truth is after a certain age some high hp tractors resale value bottoms out.an the IH 3288 3488 3688 an so on tractors have that prob even thow they are good tractors.

A lot of the industrial loaders have the cab mounted to the rear half of the machine. I recall it feeling a little weird at first, but didn't take long to get used to it...

Nobody wants that "large" of a tractor with so little HP.

International was on it's way out the door by then as well.
