Why do we still add ethanol to gasoline. While we were relying on OPEC for oil at one time, it might have made sense (that is debatable). Now that we are, for the most part, self reliant on our energy needs, why do we continue with this? It would be great to remove it so we don稚 have to buy $5/quart gas for our small engines.

i have 17 small engines, ethanol has been here for at least 20 years, I have 0 carb issue with any machine. run them out of gas when done and u will never have a issue.

Why are you buying $5 a quart fuel for your small engines? :confused2:

It is just like EVERY government program. It does not mater what the reason was that it started for, it will NEVER end.

All government programs become "MUST HAVE" programs because it would put someone out of a job if it ever ended.

GREED!!

Now that ethanol is an ingrained program - eliminating it would be akin to eliminating Social Security. Political suicide.

That's counter intuitive to everything I was taught, i.e.; Put a tool away so that it's ready to use the next time. If I have to refuel/dump every time I stop to cut a tree out of the road, or to spend a half hour at the end of the day cutting up firewood; the first is time consuming while the latter won't get done.
Then there's all of the times that I mixed up a gallon of gas, and ended up burning most of it in my burn pan. I have one of those $5.00/quart cans at my mother's house for the rare time that I might want to use the chainsaw, and buy non-ethanol for all of my small engines up here.

When E-10 appeared fuel economy dropped 10%; I keep thinking that I should run a few tanks of non ethanol in my pickup to see if that will bring the mileage up. To be honest though now that I can get the good stuff for my small engines I don't mind running E-10 in the pickups, on the assumption that it really does burn cleaner. I also will run the latter in my snowsled except for the last tank of the season; I burn the gas through that quick enough that it doesn't get stale.

Agreed on the greed.

You can buy pre-mix in gallons for about $13-15. Still not cheap, but better.
