The photo is of a single post of a 4 post car lift. The top hole is where the cable connects that lifts each comer of the runway. What is the value of the slit on that hole? I have seen this on other lifts as well. I guess I don't know the correct term, because a search did not work. I would call the manufacture, but it痴 Sunday and I知 sure someone here must know. BTW, the cable is much thicker and will never fit through the slit.

Thanks in advance

more than likely it was the type of automated cutter they used to cut the piece, most likely a oxygen gas torch was on the pattern machine. and to cut the hole as a hole it would have to have been stopped the steel preheated and the oxygen restarted, and by cutting the slit it was one continues cut,

Exactly. Plasma or flame cut. A lot less work as continuous cut vs piercing.

I have seen that on certain things but I've never understood why , thanks guys.

Maybe it's a cable pass thru, in case there was a fitting or attachment on the cable - that would allow you to seat the cable without taking the thing apart

BHB, that sounded right yesterday and I confirmed it with the manufacture today. Thanks!
