Hi all, after weeks of looking online, I finally decided to head out to the local JD dealer (Central Ontario) to purchase a new L110. This is my first new lawn tractor, and the budget was set at $3000 CDN (L110 $2599 CDN).

Not being a big fan of the big box stores, I went to the local dealer, a mid sized dealer, primarily dealing with the ag line. Once the sales guy figured out I wanted the L110, he treated me like crap, telling me that the L110, isn't a great tractor and that I should move up the JD line, telling my wife that I should spend more money, trying to make me look cheap!

As much as I'd like a bigger JD, this is my first new tractor, and replaces a long line of old junkers, but the budget being what it is the L110 seems far ahead of the craftsmen and Canadian Tire models, for a couple hundred more.

Anyways after 15 ins in the dealership I left, very pissed off and drove 30 miles away to the closest HD were I was treated well, all the sales guys (no teenagers here) were clearly excited about selling the jd's, and I left happy with my new toy.

I guess when your selling $100,000 + ag machines it might be hard to fein interest in a homeowner looking to buy a entry level lawn tractor.

I just got it yesterday, picked up a trailer with it, out the door tax in $3217 CDN.

Question, does anyone know how to deactivate the seat switch? The manual says excessive ideling is bad for the engine, but it's a real pain when you hop off for a second and you have to restart (isn't that harded on the engine?).

Thanks

I think all you have to do is set the park brake and you can get off without the tractor shutting down. I have my seat deactivated, but I don't tell others how to do it. Go figure. If you don't know how to do it, then you don't know enough about the mechanics of the machine to have it disconnected. You are possibly the reason it is there. IMO /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Enjoy your JD L110. They look like a good deal. Now hopefully they will live up to the Deere name. At least they are not the sickly color of the Sabre's that they replaced.

I have a friend with a lawn service and he has run nothing but the Sabre's with very good results.

If you lock the park brake and turn PTO off, you can get off the seat. Excessive ideling is only bad at low idle. It's an air cooled engine and the high idle is required to keep enough air moving to keep engine cool. Low idle causes high temp spikes in the engine and that is bad over time.

I hope your local JD dealer is better at service than they must be at sales...if you do have a problem they (or a different JD dealer) will be the ones fixing it...not Home Depot. I also looked at the L Series but ended up with an LT model due to incentives and what the dealer was knocking off it ended up being cheaper. I would have had no problem buying at the HD if that is how it would have worked out... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the replies, Beenthere, I am able to figure out the seat switch. Glad I asked even though a complete moron could figure out how to complete the circut, but asking got me the simple solution I was hoping for. I will try the parking brake and that should solve my problem.

My original JD was a lawn tractor from KC Canary. They treated me well then, so I went back for the 4410. I guess a good dealer is a good dealer no matter what you are buying.

LouG nailed it. The dealer who, even if he's just pretending to, shows attention regardless of what you're buying will get repeat business from you, and all the others you tell about him.

My dealer sold me a cherry, used 955 a few years back, and you would have thought he was selling me a $100K piece of equipment. Since then, he's sold me a 455, an X595 and I'm looking at a Gator (are those neat, or what?), and, a number of my acquaintances have gone to visit him, on my say-so.

Service with a smile sells /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
