Going into my 2nd witer winter the 240. Last year anything under 40 degrees and it would not even think about starting unless I used the TS. Even then it was like pulling teeth. This year It'll start like a champ as low as 30 so far. I haven't even filled the TS reservoir yet. I'll just wind it up till the oil light goes off, let go of the decompression lever and off she goes, banging on one cylinder for a sec then purring like a yammer hammer should. Haven't done anything different other than I haven't been using Power Service in the fuel lately. Not complaining by any means, just thought it odd.

Have you changed the fuel filter lately?
Or moved any wires to the thermal start?

Nothing done lately. Checked fuel filter-all is fine. Just run it and keep the fluids clean. I bought this tractor last fall (2009). Maybe it just spent too much time sitting before it came here and started working regularly? Cleaned the cobwebs out of it.

I was going to say that it just needed running to get back going good and get carbon and cobwebs blown out as well as maybe cleaning out injectors from usage. Didnt you buy it after it had been sitting up or partly in disoray if i remember?

Maybe corrosion built up on pos/neg..burnt off..and now getting good connect.

Same oil as always. Rotella 15W30. I did run it pretty hard over the summer. All that excercise must have improved its health.

I found that a lighter weight oil and less oil in crankcase (1/2 to 3/4 qt) will aid in better starting in excessive cold weather.
