Kubota M7040 cab/hyd shuttle - current, Kubota L3400 - traded
While the older M5040 used to be offered in ROPS and CAB models here, the new M5140 that replaced it is available in a CAB model in the USA but only ROPS in Canada.

I'm considering a M6040 as a result but I thought the M5140/M5040 would have been just fine since what I was looking for over the L was the loader.

Anyone have an idea they are not offering it in Canada? Just seems odd.

More likely there was an oversight between Kubota of Canada and the parent company and you guys were too polite to point it out. They'll probably just make a note to remember to ask for it in next years models.:D

My guess would be the same reason we can't order our L's with front fenders in the states but our friends to the North can.:confused::confused:

Sometimes it may be something like a legal issue. A very unlikely issue is that the cab is ROPS certified for the USA but not for Canada, but I believe all use the ISO standard today. Other things are as simple as legal lighting positions, cab glass certification, or even seat belt certs. My Grand Lxx40 literature says the tractors are not available in Nebraska. I assumed that meant Nebraska still has its law in effect that tractors cannot be sold in NE unless they are run through the Nebraska Tractor Test. Still I see someone with Nebraska in their name on the Kubota forum so there must either be a loophole or the law is no longer in effect. Different regs in different countries create a nightmare for manufacturers - and a large portion of them is trade restraint. You would not believe the hoops a manufacturer must jump through to sell in Japan. Many years ago I had a test fleet of 5 machines, one of which I wanted our dealer in Calgary to place with a customer. Problem when I went to do the pre-delivery is although the ROPS had passed the certification tests, paperwork was complete only for USA and not finalized for Canada so I had to get special permission from a provincial person to allow me to give operators a one day on-the-job training on a level site. So something obscure like this might be the reason.

Its simpler. Kubota Canada deals with Kubota separately from Kubota USA. They each decide what models to sell. In Canada, tractors over 60 pto hp are GST/HST exempt, and also in many provinces, PST exempt, so many dealers won't order anything smaller than the M6800/M7040 etc because the smaller ones, with tax are the same price.

When no one buys the smaller tractors, Kubota stops selling them. Same with the L series cab models, every one gets defrost and wiper on cabs in Canada, so all the L cabs come with them by default now.

slowuzki - that probably makes sense.

Although they still sell the 5140 ROPS and the M6040 would not qualify for no HST either as it has 56 PTO HP - 4 short.

I would have suspect that meant that they would sell the 5140 Cab but not the M6040s at all as the M7040 would qualify for the HST requirement.

Probably all boils down to what is selling in Canada like you said with the wipers and defroster. The L cab models also come default with 2 remotes instead of one since I imagine everyone with a cab here is blowing snow.

I'll add too, I've never seen a newer type M series smaller that the 6800/7040. They do sell the MX5000/5100 some but its really a L series with an M badge on it and its a much lower price point.

You'll be happy with a 7040. I can hardly wait for snow (and not just for the skiing this year!).

I'm trying to decide between a GL 4740 / GL5x40 and a M7040. Still waiting for some side by side quotes with both models equipped exactly how I want them.

So far it is looking like a M7040 is going to be only ~2k more than a GL4740, and about the same price or less than a GL 5x40 - because it is considered as 'zero rated' and thus exempt from HST.

I think the GLs are going to be more my size for my property (about 10 acres of pasture) but it just seems like a shame to give the HST money to the government.

For those of you who have M7040s, how wide are your rear tires from end to end with R1s? Trying to figure out if implements are going to cost me more for the M or if I can get away with basically the same stuff I would purchase with a GL - i.e. 6ft rotary cutter, 6.5 ft blower etc.
