I'm new to owning a tractor. I have a b7500 with 60"mmm and fel.

I only have 20 hours and am trying to faithfully observe the guidance to limit operation at full speed until after the 50 hr mark. This board is just outstanding for information, so here goes. Why the long break in period? I haven't always been faithful to to limiting full speed operation, so am I damaging my investment?

Why do you find it needed to operate at full speed? I generally operate both of my units at about 1/2 to 3/4 throttle except when mowing where I may push about 80 to 85 percent. I have found that with sharp well maintained blades I can get a good cut at reduced noise levels. Loader operation or box operation hardly requires more than 1/2 or a touch more throttle even on the little BX much less the 2410.
While I would doubt that you have caused your unit any harm why not provide the breakin. I do not find 50 hours that long and really I think what they do not want you to do is to operate the tractor continuously under heavy loads and at high power settings for long periods of time. I suspect your "breakin" has been more than adequate because you probably vary the load and speed, after 50 hours then you can feel less guilty about dogging the heck out of it, it is a tractor and it is designed to be worked hard--I should hope.

Jay's right. You don't really need to operate at full speed. Also, if you use it in low range, the blade speed should be more than adequate even if you're only operating at that 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. Might be a good idea to change the RPM a little as you go along too. You didn't mention if yours is an HST or DT, but that would make a difference too (update your profile - hint hint). Operating this way (at reduced throttle) is easier with an HST. Just don't bog it down.

Why the long break in period? So you don't break it. Just like anything else a car, spouse etc, you have to get all the parts used to each other so things work together "more gooder".

I agree about the throttle settings, the BX2200 is way overpowered for what I use it for which is mowing, snow removal and general FEL work. Not that that's a bad thing ...

It means it's not a hardship to keep it on lower throttle settings in the first 50 hours. I really can't think of a reason to ever run the throttle wide open or even close to it.

When "breaking in" my Kubota L3000 for the first 15 hours I did not run the RPM's over 2000, I wasn't doing any mowing.
After that when traveling along the road on flat going I would vary the RPM and even get it up to PTO RPM range for a few seconds.

Most of the time when I am using the tractor the RPM range that seems best is between 1600 and 2000. When I am using my winch I set the throttle around 1600 RPM and it just sits there and purrs away. Why go faster when it dosen't seem necessary.

Durning break in I would not run it at the same RPM for extended periods of time.

Hi

I have the same model which I bought in Nov. I have 42 hrs on it as of today. The long break in is really just a safety factor incase there are any faulty parts, they will breakdown under moderate RPM, and decrease resulting damage. I don't believe I have had my unit over 25% power yet. Never needed to yet. With the HST even under low power it just keeps going and going just like the bunny
