I read solutions (use your toe, be gentle, put a bolt on the treadle) but why does the reverse give you whiplash and not forward. The circuit looks to be the same...

On my 425, the treadle arm is shorter on the left than on the right, as I recall, i.e. the "levers" are different lengths from the fulcrum (the pivot). The same amount of downward movement, let's say 1/2", will open the valve farther in reverse than in forward, providing more hydraulic flow in reverse than forward....

Flow or volume = speed, so it's more likely to jerk more in reverse than forward because the controls are more sensitive in that direction...

Could be part of the answer...

Kent is right. I have the older 425 but I went to Taz and drove the newer model. I think that is part of the problem. The other part is when you start going in reverse it slightly throws your weight forward, which causes you to step on the treddle a little more which makes the problem worse. I've run alot of equipment in my life and when you are on a new piece of Equipment, you think you are not going to let it happen, but no matter how hard you try it does. Once your body gets used to the forces it will compensate.

Well, also when going forward you have a seatback to compensate the force of you going backwards.

When you go backwards, nothing to lean into.
