So I'm really in the market for a tiller, I found a JD660 tiller, its 5ft. I know I should use a 4ft but if I took it easy would a 5ft work ok? My 4110 is 20hp.

Thanks!!

Brandon

I don't think you will have a problem with a 5' tiller, worst case is you may have to make two lighter passes if the soil is extremely hard.

My JD4115 (20hp pto) handles 48" KK with no problems. I would have bought the 60" tiller, but the weight became an issue. I was concerned the my front loader w/forks would not lift the 60"er. I need to load the tiller to the bed of my pickup a couple times a year. (Tiller strapped to pallet, pallet loads easily to P/U.) Another plus is the 5' tiller will cover BOTH your tire tracks!

My option, buy the 60" model and don't look back!

With 20hp at the PTO, that combination will give you a power loading of 4hp/ft. You'll be just fine. From experience ( Dad's "New in 1984" JD 650, 14.5 PTO hp with a 4' JD tiller), any power loading of 3.6hp/ft or better will perform just fine (at least in the soils of Southwestern Illinois.)

That tiller is on it's 4th set of tines.

I just bought a 5FT. with 20hp.pto and it does better than I expected considering my soil. Rock hard red clay .When I make a 2nd. pass in 730 pto it turns it to powder.I might not have to make two passes in the future now that I have loosened it up but thats okay I don't mind the seat time.

Welcome to TBN.

I agree with the others, your tractor should handle it just fine.

Power isn't the concern. Weight is. The KK 60" is about 635 pounds. It may be pounding you around some on rocky or clay soil. If you don't have a FEL on it, you may want (need) to put some front end weights on.

I got a loader on mine, so hopefully that will be enough weight upfront, I guess if its not I could fill the bucket w/ dirt or somthing.

Thanks,

In new England, we seem to grow rocks. As your tilling, stop and pick up the rocks and put them in the bucket. You may get plenty of front weight.
