I am going to get a 2009 e350 and was just wondering if it would fit in a standard seven foot door? The specs say I should have three quarters of an inch but just wondered if anyone had real life experience.

I looked at getting a van too... 3/4 inch was too close for comfort for me. You might consider some lower profile tires...

Well it fits. Only by about a half an inch, but it fits.

Out of curiosity, why did you get an E-350? Work van?

Just wondering...

Glad it fits, but half an inch is a very, very small clearance. I don't know what your building or driveway is like, but don't you think snow build up in the winter will cause any problems?

I have a GMC Yukon XL 2500 4X4, it is quite a bit taller than the former F-150 truck with a cap I used to park where the GMC goes. Since I back it indoors, I slightly modified the door opener linkage to give a tad more clearance, and on the track inside, I marked the point where the door is fully open so I know it is up all the way, just glance at the mark and I will know it is okay.

BTW, I used to work with a guy who drove big commercial trucks with me, he had just purchased a used high-top van conversion, he traded in a standard van. Well, he went to pick it up at noon and drove it back to work to show it off, and I asked him if he was going to park it indoors when he got it home. He said, "sure, why do you ask?" I told him there was no way his new van would fit in his garage, and he said he never even thought about that....

Wanted the full-size for the family. We have three kids and may have more. Never seemed to have enough space in the minivan so we got the full-size.

I know a half an inch isn't enough. My dad and I are going to see if we can finagle a bit more out of it. The silly thing is, the garage has thirteen foot ceilings and they out in a seven foot door.

Not sure what size header you have over the door, but I have installed several overhead doors and the only one that needed a built up header was a 16 foot wide garage door. The easiest way, if you can remove and rebuild the header for more room, is to add another section to the garage door. That assumes you can actually get another section at a reasonable cost. Good luck !
