In cars a wider rim (meaning shorter sidewall on the tire) generally makes for better handling. On a tractor I dont see how this would make a difference. My guess is that the only reason Kubota has gone to the 10" rim over the 8" rim is simply because there is a larger selection of tire types available for the 10" rims. I once spent a considerable amount of time searching for industrial tires to fit on my BX23 with the 8" rims - could not find any manufacturers that made them. When you go to the 10" rims there are industrial's available and also the HDPE or whatever they are called ( I know Deere offers them on the 2210/2305). I believe the tires available for the 10" rims may have higher load carrying capacity - in some instances, but I am not sure about that. The only other benefit I can think of that that 10" rim has over a tire on an 8" rim is that you might get less bounce out of it because the sidewall is shorter - and possibly stiffer.
