Discs for compact tractor harrows come in 16"-18"-20"-22" diameter. Compact, 4-WD tractors with a bare weight of 2,700 pounds can handle 18" diameter notched discs. Tractors with bare weight of 3,500 pounds can handle heavier 20" discs; tractors with a bare weight of 4,500 pounds may opt for 22" discs. Weight is your friend.

A CK2610 can pull a Box Frame Tandem Disc harrow with 18" diameter pans, 60" wide, through moist soil under almost any scenario. You will need to run the tractor at full throttle in HST/MEDIUM in order to pull the disc with sufficient speed to mix soil.

A Box FrameTandem Disc Harrow with 18" diameter pans wider than 60" may stall the tractor during second and subsequent field passes when the moist soil had been softened by the first pass.

Disc pressure on the soil with 18" diameter pans is 35 pounds to 38 pounds per pan ~~ marginal for stirring soil not previously broken or not in good tilth.

CK2610 does not have enough tractor weight nor tractor power to functionally pull a Box Frame Tandem Disc Harrow with pans >18" in diameter.

You may be happier with a PTO powered 72" roto-tiller for mixing soil behind your CK2610, especially if the area you wish to till is less than five acres. The forward rotating tines of most roto-tillers push the tractor forward as the tines mix the soil.

What are "18" diaper pans"?

Depending on the soil and what you want to accomplish it may pull it in a fairly straight configuration. Proper angles and weight to do serious work will be a stretch.

I pulled a 7' two-row disc with my 1.3L 23hp NH 1520 for nearly a dozen years, and with turf tires, so IMO yes!

That said, my JD 5210 2WD with draft control might struggle with the same tool if I let it run too deep in sand and would spin 13.6 x 28 R1s or bog. Seems its less about what you have and more about how you use it. :2cents:

Video of larger disk breaking sod.

Several videos showing disks in use with results. There is a difference in results with a heavy disk and lots of horsepower.

I've found that a chisel plow can break up small roots and require fewer passes after (stumping/digging) with the disc & before tilling, but still plenty of back & forth.

Some direction changes and at times a quick go-over with the LR before discing, and this isn't done to make food plots, its to open the path around the back of my ten, which gets overgrown with buckthorn & olive shoots. If things go well enough I can often skip the tiller, spread grass seed, and roll it in when clearing only 1/4 ac in a session.

I also scratch the path with disc to keep keep weeds down between mowing the cleared areas with the ZTR. Ya never know what a guy will do with a disc, but IMO having one is a must.
