If I go by a big bag of whole corn feed could I expect it to grow if planted?
Will "Feed" corn grow?

Yes and no, it may germinate and grow but will not mount to much. Seed corn must be cross pollinated. Seed corn fields have the tassel cut off the rows that are going to be seed.

Why wouldn't you just buy a bag of seed corn if you want to plant it?

Yes it will grow.
Funny story....
My wife started a garden at our rural property at the beginning of last Spring. She tended and watered and nurtured the corn she planted...it never did grow.
My son and I took some feed corn and spread it all over the meadow for turkeys, pheasant whatever we could shoot. After the first rains, we came back and it had all sprouted! It grew until it was too dry but yes, it will grow.
Now my wife hates my guts.

Yep.. I buy cracked corn for my turkeys... every now and then there is a intact kernel. In the areas inthe back where I feed them, there are always quite a few corn plants that come up.

If the corn from my feeder sits on the ground without getting eaten for a week or so, it will start to grow. I don't know what it will be like because the hogs never stay away long enough to let it get very tall.

There are a lot of different types of seed corn but depending on what the OP wants to do I don't think he really cares about the top of the line seed corn so he can easily buy the cheapest seed corn out there.
I think the biggest difference between seed corn and feed corn is the germination percentage will be higher on seed corn. Plus the seed corn usually is treated.
