John Deere 1025r with 120r front end loader, Hustler zero turn mower
I have a 10' cutter, woods model 121-2 pull type. I have the cutter for sale and a prospective buyer wants to listen to the cutter running. I sold my bigger tractor and now have a TC35DA. The cutter specs say required tractor hp range is 40-85. Will it hurt my tractor to hook it up and spin it a few minutes in an open field with grass that is lawn mower short(grass cut with zero turn mower)? would you hook it up for the customer if it was yours? The cutter has been unused for about 2 years so I know I will have to grease her up. Cutter was fine last I used it but who knows now. Maybe I can spin it by hand a little to make sure it is not siezed up? Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks,
Chris

Personally, I wouldn't hesitate to run it for awhile with a 35hp tractor.

I agree with Bird, but be sure you feather the PTO lever at low RPM and then increase the engine to get the cutter up to speed. Before you disengage, slowly lower the RPM and then when the cutter slows all the way down, disengage the PTO. This will put the least stress on your hydraulic clutch/brake and should prove satisfactory. The PTO clutch is the only thing that is danger and if you are careful, I don't think you will have any problems.

Oh yes, isn't the cutter a two gearbox style? I can't imagine a 10' blade spinning.

it will be fine

Even I agree. As others have said just don''t dump tthe PTO on at high RPM's. The shock load of that cutter's inertia will be quite a load for the small tractor to spin up. One's it's going you will be fine. Starting at low RPM you'll barely notice it.

Glad it worked out for you. I was going to tell you that I spun up my 10' howse mower with a 33hp antique gasser once.. worked ok..
