Help all. I have a 8560. Was using it to brush hog let idel 5 minutes then turned it off. Came back out turned key. You can hear the starter engage the flywheel but it will not turn over. Any suggestions??

Check the simple stuff like a safety interlock. PTO is on so it won’t start etc. Next is to check battery cables. Mahindra is notorious for the battery cables that look fine but have internal corrosion that prevent starting.

I dont think it is the safety locks or the starter wouldn't engage. I can hear it hit the flywheel but not turn. Will check the cables.

if the starter turns, but don't engage the flywheel, then the solenoid on the starter is bad, the solenoid is what pushes the starter gear into the flywheel to make the engine start..

I put a new starter on it. You can hear it hit the fly wheel.

then the cables must be bad if your battery is good. if you put a voltmeter on the starter while someone cranks the engine, you can see how many volts it's getting in start position.

I apologize for the grade school approach, but did you notice the temp gauge before shutting down?...Check your oil and radiator levels...if the starter is good sounds like the engine is "locked up"..let it cool down completely and try it again (sometimes engines will get "stuck" when hot)...just a notion...BobG in VA

Had a similar issue with a 8560.
New battery did not help so checked cables.
Starter cables were good but the ground to the frame was corroded at the frame.
Removed, cleaned, reconnected ground and fired right up.
I use a battery post spray to prevent corrosion now.

I remember that with GM cars, the flywheel would expand, and jam up the starter, the fix was to get the right shim to get you just enough clearance so that don't happen. if the engine turns with a wrench on the crankshaft nut, it's not seized.. and to check for voltage, you could turn your headlights on, and notice if they go really dim, if they do, it's either the battery, or bad connections on at least one cable..

I like to use the green marine grease, it lasts forever..
