Will power steer pump work for FEL?

I have a small john deer 110 and want a FEL would a power steering pump from mabey a truck work? only looking to lift 300lbs. or so.

You can probably get the pressure but not sufficient flow. I would think it'd be slow.

A power steering pump should work fine. Years ago I built a hydraulic wrecker(tow truck) boom for the back of my pick up and T'd into my truck's exsisting pump. It had lots of power. I also built a hydraulic bender, run with an electric motor, using an old power steering pump. That machine had a large cylinder and it worked great also. You will probably need to make a bigger oil reservoir though.

I have a Power-Trac, that uses a 3000 psi, 3 GPM pump, that runs off the fan belt. It takes about 6 HP to operate the pump. It supplies enough power to steer the PT, and provide lift and tilt. It can lift 1200 lbs. These little pump run about $125, and a joystick valve for about $199.

How much HP do you have to work with?

Either way will work if the engine is not being used for anything else. This is the pump that I have. If you hook it directly, shaft to shaft, the pump will have to turn opposite the shaft on the engine, since the shaft direction is determined by looking at the shaft. . If you use a belt, you can manipulate it to work, such as turning in the same direction.

Also keep in mind that lift power is depermined not only by pump pressure capablity, but piston size.. more size.. more lift.. however.. more size=more volume needed, or it gets slow.

You can use a PS pump, I have also seen them off a 2 ton truck like an F700 or a C65 Chevy. One aff a Nissan tuck or a Jeep with a remote tan on it is really nice. You may also have to take the regulator off the pump if its pump mounted. I have left them on for some applications. It just gives a steady ouput nomater the revolutions of the motor. I ve used one to run a small lift o na sears tractor and a small blade angle on a Cub tractor.

That was my suggestion,a 1 or 2 ton truck unit.I would add a cooler on the return side and possibly add on to the sheet metal resivior for more compacity.

For a lawn tractor, this pump will be fine. To not overload your front axle you need small diameter cylinders anyways, which dont require a big flow. Pressure of most powersteering units is about 120 bar, not really that much but again, you dont need much force to lift 300 pounds.
