Hello

This is my first post at this forum and I am an extreme newbie with tractors. I don't really know what to look for in a tractor, so I was hoping you could tell me if I am on the right track.

I have 5.5 acres of land of which 3/4 acre is my grass. The rest of the land is wooded and somewhat hilly. I use a standard lawnmower for my grass, so I don't need the tractor for that. My primary purpose is to collect logs from various parts of the land - transport it to my wood pile - then attach a log splitter to the tractor to split. Also moving the split wood to my porch for burning. Other then that, possibly attaching a blade for snowpushing. I can foresee needing to grade the gravel driveway and various dirt moving operations. Nothing overly heavy duty.

So, is the 2210 the machine for these jobs? Can I attach a log splitter to it?

Thanks,
Stefan

Regarding pulling/moving logs, as long as you're moving logs that a 1200-1800 pound tractor can move, the 2210 is OK. A 4X10's bigger wheels/tires might be a bit better in this regard.

The only challenge with the log splitter is hydraulics. There is no power beyond kit for the 2210 so you would need to plug into the scv outlets and/or have a split valve to redirect pressure to the splitter. Other option is a PTO pump but that gets kind of expensive. but might be cheaper than adding a power beyond kit to a 4X10, would have to compare the costs.

If I recall, the pump capacity is only about 6 GPM on the 2210. You will have more than enough pressure, but the low volume will lengthen your ram response time. I built a splitter a few years ago and it uses a 2 stage 16GPM pump pushing a 5" cylinder and it isn't a real speed demon.

The 2210 wiil do it. The 4110/4115 will do it much faster and with more stability. The 4210/4310 will do it without blinking and all the tractors bigger than the 2210 will be ready for your next project.

I agree with all of the others. I have a 2210 and am disappointed that I am unable to hook up a 3PH log splitter. I have one available but the hydraulics are way to slow. I am going to buy a splitter with its own motor/hydraulics and set up a 3PH so that the tractor can carry it around for me. I have moved some decent size trees and stumps with the 2210. I have 8 acres and mow about 2 1/2 + 1 acre of horse pasture that is not included in the 8 acres. The rest is heavily wooded. I am using the 2210 to pull Buckthorn out and haul trees from an area that I am making into an orchard. The 2210 has limitations that make me wish I had a bigger tractor, but, when I am done it will mainly be a mower and snow remover of which it is awesome. I am very happy with it.

If your lot is hilly and wooded, the 2210 may not have enough ground clearance to be effective. Check out the 4010 and 4110. The 4010 may be close in price to the 2210. The 4110 offers quite a bit more, and may be around $3K more than the 2210. Several other advantages that the 4110 has over the 2210 are: position control for the 3-point hitch, full category I hitch, larger wheels for better traction and smoother ride on rough terrain, and independent rear wheel (steering) brakes. I rarely use the steering brakes, but have on occasion in tight spots in the woods.
